“Great location.”
This hotel is is very nice. Great location on the skywalk for attending Wells Fargo events. Little pricy, but convenience was nice.
“Amenities don't matter if you don't have the basics”
The Des Moines Marriott is in a nice location, doesn't feel cramped in spite of its small footprint, and some rooms have nice views. The staff is friendly and courteous, and the room was certainly clean enough. I have one major complaint and a few minor things that will probably keep me at the neighboring Hyatt or Savery, and keep me from recommending it. I arrived in the evening and turned on the shower, and walked into the next room. Upon returning to the bathroom, I found the water still cold...and five minutes later it wasn't much better than tepid. It did eventually warm sufficiently for a shower, but never got hot. The next morning there was plenty of hot water, right away. That night, it was back to cold scrubbings, and so on. In a modern hotel in the developed world in the 21st century, this shouldn't happen. My minor complaints are the same ones I always leave, for all but the very best accommodations: 1) Charging for internet is like charging for water, or air, or pillows. Stop it. 2) If you are so uncouth as to do so, make sure it's actually worth paying for. This is 2011. Really. 3) Flat screen digital televisions are quite nice, thanks. But why show a fuzzy, analog signal on them that gets warped because of the aspect ratio change? Digital cable exists. Join us in the new century. Please.

“Good hotel”
If you're in Des Moines on business I'd recommend the Marriott Des Moines. The service is no-nonsense, prompt and efficient. The staff is very courteous and helpful with any issues you may have. My meeting didn't end on time and I didn't want to be charged for half a day's room rate for late check out, so the valet brought me my car, helped me stow my bags in the trunk and returned the car to the hotel garage for me. When I was finished I presented the claim check for my car and was off and running. I really appreciated the extra hand I got from the staff.
“nice hotel for conference and meetings”
the only problem I had was that the key to the room kept loosing its charge and I would have to go back to front desk and get new key...this happened twice but other than that it was a great hotel.
“A good choice in downtown Des Moines”
Good location, very comfortable rooms and walking distance to some great downtown attractions, including the farmer's market, sculpture park and more!
“Marriott Des Moines Downtown”
I booked 3 rooms at this hotel for family due to a wedding. This was the first time I've stayed at this hotel. (And the last.) - The hotel charged $12.95 per day for an ethernet connection. Other hotels offer WiFi now, most for free. My son (in another room) paid one day for the wired connection. It was so slow that it was unusable. - Front desk people weren't friendly. - I called the hotel a couple of weeks prior to the stay and asked to have a refrigerator added to my room. The two people that I talked to were unfriendly at first. But they finally agreed to a refrigerator which was delivered to the room when I arrived. - The valet parking attendants were not friendly. - The cost for valet parking was too high at $19/day. Even in a big city like San Diego (where I stayed the prior week) parking right under the convention center was only $10/day. This was the highest rate that I've ever had for hotel parking, especially for a city the size of Des Moines. - The man in the Starbuck's/convenience shop was not friendly in the morning when I tried to buy coffee twice. Niether day did he have all the ingredients to make my Starbuck's coffee. - The air conditioner wouldn't keep the room cool enough. - However, every bellhop that I had was friendly and helpful. Basically, I was disappointed in my stay at this Marriott. It wasn't the quality of service that I expect from a Marriott hotel. Thanks.
“Good Experience”
Disapointed in extra charge for internet use. Free parking at city garage directly across the street on Sat. & Sun.
“A different room locatin would have helped.”
The hotel was very clean with great service. The big drawback was the long wait for the elevators and that our room was next to the elevators and the ice machine. It was a little noisy listening to the elevators and everyone getting their ice. Perhaps they could have asked when we checked in if we minded being next to both of those items.
“Would stay again”
A wonderful place to stay in Des Moines. It's in the center of downtown and very hospitable. The hotel restaurant serves quality food and the rooms are very clean.
