Very Nice Downtown Hotel

This hotel could easily be considered among the best downtown hotels.

great room if you do not want to sleep.

Posted Feb 18, 2015
Pros: location
Cons: level the beds. Put rubber seal strips on door frames so doors do not slam so loud.
Location: downtown has limited things to do within walking distance (especially during the winter) especially limited during the weekends.
Staff, lobby and location were all excellent for our needs. Trouble began right from the start, high price for valet parking, not reimbursed with stay. We parked on street for free (weekends only). Check in was fast, efficient, and professional. Room looked great upon entry, found out during the nights sleep (term loosely used as described later); that the bed had one corner lower than rest causing my wife to sleep turned around. Not being a frequent stay member internet use was charged to the room (decided cost was not worth it). lounge was in the lobby right next to front entry, great but cold winds on a mid winter evening in Iowa. Now for the nights sleep, Bed felt cozy and perfect except as noted above, then middle of the night, drunken wedding party decided it was time to slam doors (38 times) and continue the loud talking, fighting, laughing even after hotel security banged on the door. In the morning we mentioned all this to front desk staff, it was handled in an efficient and professional manner to every ones satisfaction.

Great hotel, always a good experience! We enjoy the view of the city from the room, and the beds are pretty comfortable. Some of the hotel looks like it could use some updates, but the rooms are clean and accommodating.

Hotel was great. Expedia was inaccurate.

Posted Feb 10, 2015
Room fitting 5 people was not correct unless all wanted to sleep in a king bed. Free Wi - Fi listed by Expedia was wrong. Had to pay $10. Needed a roll - away to get our daughter a place to sleep.

Couples weekend getaway

Posted Jan 27, 2015 on Hotels.com
I picked this hotel for a stress free, couples getaway. The hotel is beautiful and the bed and shower were amazing! However, as I laid down in bed I noticed both night stands were covered in dust; hmm how clean was the rest of the room then? We used the valet, the people were incredibly nice but we were charged twice for one day/night of parking. We told the front desk and hey said they removed the charge but when we got home our account was still charged double for valet. Needless to say, it ended up not being as stress free as we had hoped.

Nightmare.

Pros: Location on the skywalk was convenient and the view of the city was magnificent. Beds comfortable and rooms spacious and clean.
Cons: Management needs to monitor and respond accordingly to groups or individuals who take advantage of the facility. Elevators need to be staffed.
Location: Skywalk gives convenient access to multiple businesses, the Wells Fargo arena and the Convention Center.
Hotel booked a conference at same time as our stay, The attendees allegedly booked rooms for one or two people, but had 6 or more people in a room, which overloaded the elevators to the point where we (among many others on the top floors) were forced, after over an hour wait for an elevator that was not already jam packed with people, to take to the stairs to descend 27 floors WITH LUGGAGE. My husband and I are in our 60"s and we were sore for days afterwards. We met a very nicely dressed woman in heels on about the 18th floor who was going UP the stairs and was clearly extremely winded. No hot water due to the overload as well. Management should have been on top of this situation. No free internet, no contenental breakfast, and $21.00 per night for parkling. Totally unacceptable. As expensive as these rooms were, I would expect more. We stayed at a Sheraton the night before in West Des Moines and should have stayed there this night as well. So disappointed.

Awesome Service

Posted Jan 23, 2015 on Hotels.com
The service that we received from the employees greatly exceeded our expectations. Everyone was very friendly and took care of us right away. Especially Mike who took all our bags up to our room for us and shuttled us to where we needed to be. That guy was awesome! Will definitely be staying here again every time we are in Des Moines!

Good location in Downtown

Nice hotel but it was very very busy. Two employees were very rude when asked simple questions such as "can you tell me where the restaurant is."
