Convenient location. Staff is courteous. Didn't go swimming because the water was freezing cold, so please get that fixed. The coffee creamer in the hotel room was expired and when I poured it in the coffee, it was curdled. ( please check your expiration dates )

Loved it, the train people are talking about is really quiet. Very good tracks are laid by this hotel, so you don't notice it. Except for kids that love seeing trains.

The property seems to be getting a little run down (e.g. the toilet paper holder was loose and sagging -- no big deal, but hey). I'd go 4.5 stars, for sure, because a couple facility issues aren't worth a full star, but I can't quite go five stars. Breakfast was phenomenal with regard to choices, amounts, and ease of self service. Bananas were crap, but what can you do. I am not saying a Michelin chef was on site hand-making crepes, but come on -- it's a continental breakfast. And staff was hustling, especially at breakfast, every time I looked. Been here before, and will likely go back!

Residence Inn DT Des Moines a nice stay!
First time I've stayed at this location in DT Des Moines, and was extremely impressed. The only recommendation I have is for easier entrance and exiting the front of the building.

We booked a long ways out and 3 days out from our stay Expedia the same room was significantly less than what we booked for. I asked the front desk about it and they said they couldn’t honor the price even though I had proof on this app of the lower price. The property is showing it’s age also

There are situations where certain rates are prepaid and nonrefundable and when booked with a 3rd party the hotel is required to follow with the 3rd party site rules & policies. We do appreciate you staying with us.

Worst night of sleep ever
The staff was very welcoming, so that’s good. My room had an overpowering smell of Glade air freshener but that wasn’t enough to cover the smell of cigarette smoke. I never book a smoking room but perhaps I forgot to specify non smoking. Anyway. Mattress was extremely uncomfortable - hard with no cushioning at all. The hotel is on a railroad track and trains came through TWICE during the middle of the night. I sleep like a rock but both times it was so loud (finally I can use ‘like a freight train’ literally) I almost jumped out of my bed.

Good location in downtown - can walk to many restaurants and it is next to a river walking path. Clean, can cook in room if you want since it had all basic necessities. Breakfast was nice had a lot of options including items that were gluten free.

Family of four. Booked a queen bed room with a pullout bed. The pullout had no mattress and was clearly broken with a 2x4 jammed in to keep it from collapsing. No coffee pot in the room.

Check in was supposed to be allowed at 4pm. When arriving at 4:30pm we were told by staff that our room would not be ready until after 5:30pm. Unacceptable. Period. Will never stay at one their properties again.

Someone was smoking skunk in the hotel and it blew thru the air conditioner all night. Bed was so old it sunk in the middle making it very uncomfortable.

Wonderful, comfortable clean hotel . Only issue was that I asked for and assured , over the phone before the stay , of request for adjoining rooms. We did not receive adjoining rooms but one somewhat nearby. Otherwise excellent stay!

Hotel definitely needs some updating. Nice location near bars and restaurants. Staff did their best but short staffed like a lot of places these days. Impressed with downtown Des Moines though. Up and coming place.

Was disappointed on Sat morning that there was no regular coffee out and the hot breakfast took at least 15-2.0 mins to refill. I understand that help is hard to find but just disappointed. WIll not effect my decision to stay again.

Downtown location was great for dining. Staff at check in and for general questions was excellant and any needs were taken care of immediately. Superior breakfast with wonderful choices..wish there was a recycle bin for plasticware.

Our stay was short. Disappointed that we did not know ahead of time that the pool was closed for renovations. Our kids were disappointed. They were able to walk outside in the cold and use the pool at the hotel next door. It was in a very convenient area for what we needed. Definitely stock up and take your own snacks as the vending area “market” was outrageous in pricing. Over all a nice place.
