“Great Hotel and even better service!”
The front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating. Rooms are clean and roomy. It’s located the heart of downtown and across the street from the skyway.

“Quiet Place to Stay”
We had a great experience at Suites of 800 Locust Hotel. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were much larger than I had expected, especially the bathroom. The bathroom had double sinks, nice shower and good lighting. Even though the street was very busy on Saturday night we didn't hear any noise in our room at all. I would say this was the quietest hotel I have every stayed at. It was wonderful to be able to sleep without hearing others in the middle of the night. The hotel is close to court avenue district, about 5 blocks and all other downtown activities. I would suggest visiting the Royal Mile pub if you want to try something different. They have pub food and several belgian brews. The staff was very friendly and it was a cozy place to have a few drinks. We did have a few drinks at the Cosmopolitan Lounge in the hotel and it was very nice and romantic. We would stay here again!
“Great facility, parking challenging”
Great hotel, exquisite rooms, love the fireplace in my room. Great martini bar. Only down side is parking, hard to find and have to walk, lugging suitcase a long way.
“Nice hotel”
Everything in the hotel is really first class from the public areas to every detail in the room. I would suggest this hotel to anyone with the strong suggestion to get a room on the atrium, not the roadside of the hotel. Locust Street seems to be the cruising area for loud cars at night. This is more a problem for this area, not just this hotel. The atrium rooms are very peaceful.
“State Fair Weekend”
The location of the hotel is just what we needed. Close to downtown nightlife and a short drive to the State Fair. The room seemed a bit old, but very spacious. We were in a bind and had to pay what we did. I wouldn't pay the same amount for the room again. Breakfast was OK, just like any other hotel. They have a chef on for an hour or so making omletes, but I didn't experience those. Walking distance to great restaurants and bars. Free parking on the weekends is the best!
“Great Hotel, Good Ambiance”
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Staff was great. Breakfast was delicious (love those made to order omelettes). Would definitely stay there again. Beautiful hotel.
“Best Hotel in Des Moines”
I've stayed at 5 different hotels in downtown and near the airport and this one is the best. One teeny request: Our room came with a free breakfast. Not sure who turned the TV on in the dining room, but it was annoying that early in the morning. We asked that it be turned down and it was, but we waited until others exited the dining room to make this request. A nice quiet breakfast would have been better.
“Non smoking room reaked of smoking”
The room was very small but nice. We had a non smoking room but there was a constant smoking odor coming from the vents. We sprayed air freshener throughout our stay, but didn't help much.
“Absolutely beyond expectations.”
This hotel was a great surprise! We were given a King room with fireplace. The room was gorgeous, with high ceilings. The bathroom was huge, with two sinks & a full bathtub. The bed was comfortable, the pillows fluffy, & the towels were somehow softer than I can even get mine at home! Staff at the front desk were always charming, friendly, & helpful. On the first night we requested pillows for our room, then went to look at the fitness room. By the time we came back (<10 minutes) we had our pillows. Though the hotel doesn't have a restaurant, they offer a full complimentary breakfast. A chef is brought in with everything needed for made to order omelettes, etc.. Everything was fresh & well made and the pastries were very good. The fitness facilities are better than one might expect for a small hotel. There's a hot tub as well as saunas & top of the line exercise equipment. We will definitely stay there again if we ever return to Des Moines. There are some negatives. There's no pool. There's no hotel parking, so you do have to either park on the street or at one of the pay lots. If a flat screen television is part of your requirements for a hotel room, you will be disappointed. Lastly, & this is not any fault of the hotel, but apparently there is nothing else to do in Des Moines than drive around in loud cars & hoot & hollar out ones windows. Leaving the windows open on a street view room is not an option, but it's not an issue if you close the windows.
