Australia Hotel & Resort Travel Guide

Australia, also known by a variety of amusing sobriquets such as Down Under, is an extremely popular destination for tourists. This is somewhat ironic as the country is also one of the most remote in the world.

In many other ways, Australia is a land of contrasts. The continent holds both vast areas of natural beauty and large modern cities such as Sydney. Aboriginal tribes, such as the Maori, live side-by-side with the descendants of the British that colonized the island.

    The Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most famous barrier reefs in the world. This reef is known for its beautiful sea life and vibrant coral. The Great Barrier Reef is large enough to spend several days exploring. Most divers leave from Cairns, but if you leave from the lesser-known Port Douglas, you can find dive spots that are less crowded.

    Uluru

Also known as Ayer's Rock, Uluru is one of the oldest rocks in the world, and it is also one of Australia's most iconic attractions. The best time to view Uluru is during sunrise or sunset as the sky looks as though the sun exploded into a burst of breathtaking shades of red and orange. The aborigines of this area consider the rock to be sacred, but they do allow visitors to scale the rock.

    Beaches

Australia has over 50,000 kilometers of coastline. The east coast tends to be busier than the western coast, but both coasts are gorgeous. And with so much coastline, it's easy to find a spot to relax by yourself.

    Surfing

While Australia didn't invent surfing, the sport is deeply ingrained in Australian culture. The east coast is considered by many to be one of the best surf experiences in the country. Beginners and professional surfers alike may find that Noosa beach is a great place to surf together.

    Wine Country

Although France may be more well known for its wine, Australia has its own wine regions, and it produces fine wines. One such region is Margaret River near Perth. A trip to the vineyards is usually a simple day trip from nearby major cities.

    Sydney

Another iconic site in Australia is the Sydney Opera House in Sydney Harbor. This large city is filled with great sites such as the Chinese Garden. There are also some excellent parks and surf spots in Sydney as well.

    "Great location, walked everywhere."
Went for a girls' shopping weekend. Had a great time. All staff from concierge to front desk to cleaners and even staff encountered in lift etc were all so engaging/cheerful/helpful. It does make your day. Rooms were small but we were not there during the day (out shopping), and out for dinner at night so really only there to sleep soundly.

    "Quite rooms and friendly staff"
Enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We'd stayed here a few years ago and loved it back then. Are amazed how quiet the rooms are considering its in the middle of the city. Only one negative....would have loved to have a top sheet on the bed as well as the doona

    "Recommended"
The Sheraton is perfectly located - in the CBD but with the sanctuary of Hyde Park, and the convenience of St James railway station, on the other side of the street (about 15 minutes from the airport by train). We chose to walk to Circular Quay, where the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge are located. It is about a 20 minute stroll. If you don't want to walk, just take a train. it's one stop, and about 3 minutes away, and the station is right on top of Circular Quay. We took a not huge but very comfortable pleasant room with 2 single beds, couch and writing desk, and walk-in closet (with safe). The facilities are basic - beds, TV & DVD player spacious bathroom with bath and shower, bar-fridge, and a kettle (no microwave or kitchen); but I believe suites with a kitchen are available. There is an excellent gym, pool, sauna and steam room available for use between 6am and 9pm. The staff were very friendly and helpful. In the lobby we able to use the internet and printer to arrange boarding passes for our flight home.

    "Bathroom Window?"
We loved everything except the bathroom window. Having the blind for this window on the outside is not useful for the person who wants the privacy. Even when the blind is down the inside of the cove is mirrored so you can see around it. Couldn't go... Had to use the ground level toilets. Otherwise everything was great!!

    "3rd time not the charm."
3rd time staying at the GC in Surfers. Parking to check in was an ordeal. 3 large buses in the way. After 10min none had moved. One driver even locked up and got out ready for a night out as "hey free parking on surfers". Eventually 2 buses moved on and I could check in. This process was quicker than usual and staff were very friendly. Entering my room I found a crib setup. I assume from the previous guest. Also discovered few of the light switches worked. If I was there longer than one night I would have asked flat out for a new room. Parking ticket didn't work on the way in, but worked fine on the way out.
