    Pocket Guide: French Polynesia

There’s something about French Polynesia that inspires both romance and art. Newlyweds trek to this South Pacific island chain in search of the perfect honeymoon, artists like Paul Gauguin find muses hiding in the untamed scenery, and filmmakers use the volcanic landscape as a backdrop for their love-filled flicks. It’s as if Paris suddenly rebuilt itself in the middle of the Pacific Ocean; the climate may be different, but the romantic, artsy atmosphere feels surprisingly similar.

Of course, the best hotels in French Polynesia contribute to that ambience, and you’ll find a variety of boutique inns, international resorts, and beachfront bungalows scattered throughout the chain. If you’re searching for a classic getaway, try one of the cheap hotel deals in French Polynesia destinations like Tahiti. This iconic island is the area’s cultural center, and you’ll have access to Papeete’s city-centric sights, nearby waterfalls, and black-sand beaches.

In the mood for something a little more remote? Book a trip to the serene hideaway of Bora Bora. Situated to the northwest of Tahiti, this popular destination is celebrated for its tropical lagoon, palm-fringed peaks, and stunningly turquoise waters. Though the prices tend to be a touch higher here, it’s not difficult to track down discount rates or a cheap French Polynesia hotel deal at one of the properties perched along the shore.

Another top choice for relaxation-seekers is the Tuamotu island of Rangiroa. Known as the world’s second-largest atoll, this secluded spot is a fantastic place to dive, snorkel, and soak up the sun. You won’t see many coral reefs on the island, but it’s famous for its dolphin, ray, and turtle populations. Plus, the pink-sand beaches of Les Sables Roses are the very definition of paradisiacal.

Interested in seeing the world through Paul Gauguin’s eyes? Head to the Marquesas Islands for a special peek at the artist’s favorite location, Hiva Oa. This is one of those destinations you have to see to believe; ancient maraes sit among the wild foliage, tiki carvings pepper the landscape, and palm fronds dance in the balmy breeze. Plus, the area’s French Polynesia hotel deals put you in an ideal location for exploring the verdant hiking trails and local petroglyphs.

Wherever your journey takes you, you’ll discover a variety of French Polynesia hotel packages just waiting to help you fall head-over-heels for this island paradise. Book a few waterfront rooms in Moorea. Make reservations for an intimate bungalow in Bora Bora. No matter your traveling style, French Polynesia hotels have an option for you.

Great people, great views, great service, LOVE the mini kitchen so you don't have to eat out every meal. Really enjoyed ourselves. The pool is wonderful and open 24-7! Huge bathrooms! Double doors that open all the way to let in the wonderful sounds of the ocean.

    "Panoramic View Bungalow"
Beautiful location and we loved the over-water bungalow. If there was one thing missing, it is the ability to step into the water from your bungalow. Instead, you have to walk the pier back to the shore and enter the water there. We did have numerous times when a pool attendant was no-where to be found and thus we could not get towels etc.

Four Seasons offered impeccable service. We were impressed and felt really special throughout our honeymoon. I don't even have to mention how beautiful Bora Bora is, and the hotel was built strategically to accentuate this beauty.

"What a great place to get away on Bora Bora!!!"
We just got back from Bora Bora and the Mai Tai was perfect! We spent several days in an ocean view room and then a couple in an overwater bungalow and they were both excellent. I love being able to snorkel right off the room, but we also loved the view of the lagoon and all the gardens from the room up top. The staff is so very kind and were accommodating to our every need. The day we changed rooms the official check in time was 2pm but they called us and 9:30am, came and got our bags and took us to Motu 108 :). The snorkeling was awesome right off the beach and under the bungalows. We also took the kayak out to the coral gardens to snorkel a couple of times. We just pulled the kayak up on the rocks and off we went, to be surrounded by all manner of fish everywhere we looked (and we could see SO far, the water clarity is great). Food was also good, so much fresh fruit and fish. We ate at several places, the "Poissone Cru" is delicious at the Matira Beach snack shack. We also took bicycles for a time, it's fun to pedal along and stop now and then. The flowers and foliage are so beautiful everywhere. The little store down the road is really kind of fun and very convenient for snacks and wine in the room. We bought pearls in Viatape, not overly priced when compared with Papeete. It was once in a lifetime trip for us and we'll treasure the memories and photos!

Great honeymoon location. The food at the hotel is a bit pricey but loved the buffet breakfast! Make sure you try some of the restaurants on the island and make a trip to the super market to grab some snacks or things to make lunch. Stayed 5 nights/6 days and only spent about $740 in food.

    "best corals in Moorea"
I'm in four seasons Bora Bora now. However I think Hilton Moorea has the best view of the corals ( even most of the corals are dead). Only problem at Hilton is the WIFI. The signal is too bad and you need to spend 10 usd per day: ( otherwise Hilton Moorea is the best.

    "Paradise"
We arrived early and the staff informed us that we could use the pool until our room was ready. We changed into our suits and enjoyed the beautiful scenery from the pool. Our room was breathtaking. We grabbed a mask and snorkel which was provided by the hotel at no extra charge. We saw a variety of colourful tropical fish. It was amazing. The next day we kayaked out by the reef and went paddle boarding. The view of the island from the water is stunning. In the evening we made dinner reservations and had front row seats for the Polynesian Dance show which the hotel hosts every Saturday and Wednesday night. We were able to stay past the check out time without any extra charge. It was perfect.
