    Pocket Guide: Hawaii

Hawaii, the US's 50th state, is unlike any other place in the whole of the country. Located almost 2,000 miles southwest of mainland North America in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Hawaii is full of incredible scenery, rich history, and genuine character. The archipelago offers fun and beauty across every island, from majestic canyons to pristine beaches, exotic plant-‐life to exciting nightlife. Stay at Hawaii Hotels in the area of your choice.

    Nature at its most incredible

One of Hawaii's most impressive sites is Kilauea Volcano, one of the world's most active volcanoes. It erupted in January 1983 and has been continuously flowing ever since. By January 2000, it had added 506 acres of land to Kilauea's southern shore. You might imagine that humans are prohibited in this volatile landscape, but actually it's possible to hike through the lush rainforest nearby and experience vents spewing steam, walk-through lava tubes, and newly created land. Getting to see this fascinating sight in person is reason enough to book your flights to Hawaii. Being situated in the Pacific Ocean has its perks. You can start or end your cruise in Hawaii or take advantage of the cheap hotel deals Hawaii has to offer to experience the many wonders mother nature has in store for you. Humpback whales migrate from Alaskan feeding grounds every winter to holiday in the warm waters surrounding Hawaii. If you're lucky, you might see a frolicking whale leap out of the water during one of many whale-watching catamaran cruises. Equally, dolphins seem to love Hawaiian water, and glass bottom cruises are the ideal way to view these intelligent animals in their natural habitat.

The islands are also home to some of the biggest waves on earth. Waves at Jaws Beach on Maui can reach heights of 70 feet and move at 30 miles per hour. For this reason, it has become something of a Mecca for experienced surfers the world over.

For people who like their sea slightly less choppy, Hawaii also has some of the world's most beautiful snorkeling spots. Molokini, for example, has the clearest water in Hawaii, with visibility often at 200 feet, and is teeming with vibrant aquatic life. Take advantage of Hawaii hotel deals – whether you like your waves big or small - so you can stay at the best hotels in Hawaii to enjoy the islands’ waters.

From the air, a helicopter ride along the Kohala Coast explores stunning sea cliffs opening into the majestic valleys of the Kohala Mountains. Much of Hawaii is not accessible by foot, but a helicopter ride offers an unparalleled vantage above untouched landscape.

    Cultural embrace

The culture of the native Hawaiian people has been enjoying a proud rebirth. The best way to experience this cultural uprising is at a Polynesian Luau, where the history, music, and dance of Hawaii are celebrated by women in grass skirts, men with face paint, and crowds of fire dancers.

Of course, Hawaii had a major part to play in the Second World War, and the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor pays tribute to the men and women who lost their lives on December 7, 1941.

Be it on land, in the ocean, or from the air, the true power and beauty of nature reveals itself in Hawaii. But while its volcanoes bubble and its waves roar, the people of these islands are able to relax, smile, and enjoy the finer things in life. And when you visit, they'll encourage you to do the same when you stay at hotels in Hawaii – no matter if you prefer luxury hotels, 5 star hotels or enjoy all inclusive hotels in Hawaii. This state like no other is ready for you.

    "Family Vacation"
This year, my daughter and two grandsons (ages 14 and 9), my niece and her fiancee, and I enjoyed nine days at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. My daughter and grandsons and I were there last year, but my niece had never been to Hawaii so we wanted to be sure she had a wonderful time. We had smoothies, lounged by the pools and the beach, ate at every restaurant on the property, allowed the boys to wander freely as long as they stayed on the property, got lost in the sunrises and sunsets, had ice cream daily and walked it off by wandering to the zoo and museum and enjoyed a ukelele festival while there. The fireworks on Friday evening were spectacular and the crowds were friendly. The Village is located very close to the Ala Moana Shopping Center and downtown Waikiki, so we walked everywhere. Diamond Head is walking distance and doesn't take long to get there. It's also a very short taxi ride if you are not inclined to walk anywhere within twenty miles. We love the fresh air, exercise, fresh fruits and juices and calm atmosphere.

"Hotel close to everything including the beach."
This hotel is walking distance to everything such as restaurant, shopping, and most importantly THE BEACH. Our rental car was hardly used because activities outside Waikiki proper have their own transportation, pick up and drop off right close to the Hotel. No worries if you over drunk because you are not driving.

    "Stunning Staycation"
We live on the NorthShore of Oahu but I wanted a nice get away for my wife and a spa package. Everything in Waikiki seemed very pricey so I decided to look in our own backyard. We got a beautiful room looking out over the ocean and my wife loved the spa treatment.

"Hawaiian Hotel - spacious gardens on the beach"
The Kaanapali Beach Hotel is a very relaxed, friendly hotel right on the beach at Kaanapali on Maui. It has large gardens where one can easily find space to put a deck chair in or out of the sun and enjoy the warm Maui breeze. The sea temperature is gorgeous and is right in front of the hotel, but there is also a whale shaped pool in the centre of the gardens for guests who prefer not to swim in the sea. There are a range of room rates, from absolute beach front to partial sea view, garden view etc. I have stayed twice in the beach front rooms where it has been a pleasure to watch passers by on the beach walk, and the sun set in the evenings. The Kaanapali beach isn't a luxury hotel like some others along the Kaanapali strip, but the warmth and friendliness of its staff, and the hawaiian aloha they cultivate will keep you returning for more.

"2nd stay here; love the breakfast"
The breakfasts are fantastic - they even had gluten free muffins, but it's definitely worth it to try and get a 2 for 1 deal if you can b/c it can be expensive. The hotel is great, we really enjoy it and it's our favorite hotel to stay out.

"Great hotel in a picturesque setting by the ocean"
This resort has so many amenities. There is a good selection of restaurants to choose from. The tram and boat to get from one end of the resort to the other are excellent. Our children loved the lagoon beach, which has several water activities to choose from. Their favorites were snorkeling and kayaking. The pool by Lagoon Tower is wonderful for children--- there are waterfalls, a cave, a slide, and the depth is 3.5 to 4 feet throughout the pool. The DVD rental kiosks in the lobbies of each tower have a good selection of movies to choose from. Would definitely return here.

    "Great location and no complaints"
We stayed here for a second time because the first time was just great, and we weren't disappointed. For Kona, the price is reasonable. The location is great--very close to the center of town and lots of restaurants. What makes it special and different is the museum displays in the lobby and the reconstructed historic site on the grounds.
