    Pocket Guide: Louisiana

Louisiana, located in the southern portion of the United States, is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world, including from the United States. The most famous city in Louisiana is New Orleans, which is considered by many to be one of the greatest party cities in the world.

Although Mardi Gras is the most popular and well-known of the festivals in Louisiana, the state actually has many more. Throughout the state, there are over 400 festivals which take place each year.

No festival is as big as Mardi Gras, but unlike the French Quarter Festival, this yearly celebration is not considered to be family friendly. During the celebration, organizations known as krewes create elaborate and beautiful floats and costumes for the parade. While Mardi Gras is a single specific day, the partying and parades normally begin about two weeks before Mardi Gras itself. Mardis Gras is also celebrated in other cities across the United States and particularly in Louisiana, but not with anywhere near New Orleans' passion. Many Louisiana hotel packages during this time will provide additional bonuses along with discount rates during this time, but those tend to go quickly.

For many of the festivals, you will want to make reservations at one of the Louisiana hotels early. This is especially true of hotels in Louisiana around New Orleans for Mardi Gras. Begin looking for cheap hotel deals in Louisiana at least a year in advance if you are planning on joining in on the Mardi Gras activities.

Advice on Getting a Cheap Louisiana Hotel Deal

In order to find and book the best rooms at special rates and get top discounts and prices on Expedia, remember to not wait too long. You could miss out on the best Louisiana hotel deals as hotels tend to fill up quickly otherwise. When you luck out and are able find hotels during Mardi Gras, the prices can be significantly higher than if you had planned ahead.

Wyndham New Orleans - French Quarter

    "March - French Quarter"
The room was nice and staff bent over backwards to help, that being said, four elevators and while we were there two worked ok the third finally was fixed and the forth was still out when we left. At times there was a line to use the elevators, we were on the 15th floor so we had to wait for them. $35/night for off street parking that you will gladly pay to keep your car secure so expect that added cost. I would try them again IF I ever go back.

"Nice enough accomadations if you attend a function"
Booked at Belle as price was right and were attending a function downtown with alcohol. We didn't want to drive 25 miles to get home after function. The Belle really needs to put at least a one cup coffee pod in the rooms. I know they have coffee in the lobby, but some of us NEED a cup of coffee before getting out of bed. The coffee in the room would have made the trip much better.
