    Pocket Guide: Sint Maarten

Don’t let the pirates have all the fun in the Caribbean. Find your own cheap Sint Maarten hotel deal, and you’ll be on your way to a tropical paradise rich in tradition and history. The hotels in Sint Maarten are located in the Dutch, southern half of the island of Saint Martin. Saint Martin has the special distinction of ranking among the smallest landmasses to belong to two countries, in this case, France and the Netherlands.

Many travelers prefer to cruise to the port of Philipsburg, the capital of the Dutch side of the island, and the most likely place to find discount Sint Maarten hotels. If you book rooms in Sint Maarten, it’s easy to travel to the French side of the island. You need not worry about passports and border issues because the countries cooperate with each other. With two exotic cultures in the same location, three if you include the Caribbean lifestyle, traveling to Sint Maarten is like getting the best of three worlds at rates you would normally pay for one.

The island is small enough that all the top Sint Maarten hotel packages will put a vacationer at the tables in some of the world’s best casinos and greatest gourmet restaurants, which feature fresh local seafood prepared with the inimitable Caribbean flair.

Although there’s plenty to see and do on the island, many vacationers would trade all the other pursuits to simply roam the shoreline, relax, tan upon the gloriously white sands, and explore the peaceful harbors and cozy coves. The waters are clear enough for you to watch the brightly colored tropical fish school in the shallows. The tall ships in the harbor are ready to take you for a beautiful cruise around the island, but if all of the soothing blue tranquility gets to be too much, the Sint Maarten hotel deals include access to the hot cafes and jumping beach bars too.

Cheap hotel deals in Sint Maarten can save you enough money to shop duty-free during your stay. The prices are great on clothing, jewelry, and electronics. Other popular activities include snorkeling the reefs and deserted islands as well as chartering shark dives and marlin-fishing expeditions. If your tastes are more conventional, make reservations for guided island hikes, horseback rides, and mountain bike runs, but also be sure to visit Loterie Farm, the nature preserve with a lush tropical forest and a bird's eye view of the entire island from Pic Paradise Mountain.

My wife and I checked in on the day of our anniversary and the room was nicely decorated for her with flowers, rose and wine. Beautiful setting, it was a wonderful atmosphere, we made some friends and the staff was amazing.

""Great Place to Stay on St Maarten!!""
We booked this resort because we had seen footage of Maho Beach on the Discovery Channel and put it on our bucket list. We were not disappointed. The hotel is a wonderful place to spend a vacation. Our plane landed at 2:00 and by 2:30, we were on the beach. Check in was a breeze and the front desk agent gave us a wonderful room way up on the 9th floor. The room was very clean, the air conditioning worked well, the refrigerator in the room was stocked with drinks (replenished every day) and the bathroom had lots of clean towels and amenities. The balcony had table and chairs to watch the planes coming in. The resort is undergoing construction, but it does not impact guests, as the work is on a building behind the resort. The grounds are beautiful with tropical flowers, palm trees and winding paths. We loved the casual dining. Both the Palms Grill and the Ocean Terrace had wonderful service and awesome open air sea views. Food selections were good every day. Breakfast contained eggs (any way), omelets, pancakes, french toast, breakfast potatoes, beans, cold cuts, breads and muffins, and fresh fruit. Every day. Lunch also offered tasty selections each day with lots of salads and grilled options. Dinner each day had a different preparation of fish, pork, chicken and beef. There were plenty of salads and side dishes to choose from. Desserts were fresh and tasty. There is also a pub on the property which fellow guests rated well, but we really

    "Top notch!"
The Holland House Beach Hotel is conveniently located in the central shopping area of Philipsburg and it is also on the beach. I recommend getting a room with beach view. The hotel has a very nice restaurant and bar. The staff is very friendly. I particularly appreciated the help of Luisanny, who works at the front desk in the afternoons and evenings. She went out of her way to help me plan things to do and in many other ways was very helpful. I was traveling alone and she was a Godsend. Thank you Luisanny!

"Honeymoon in St. Maarten (August 25-September 1)"
Our stay at Sonesta Great Bay was incredible! It was the off season, so we practically had the entire resort to ourselves (with some other very fun and friendly guests!) We chose Sonesta Great Bay over the sister resort in Maho Beach, because of the beach and it's proximity to Phillipsburg, the capital. The hotel was within walking distance to Phillipsburg and it made for some quick, scenic (and very hot) walks to town whenever we liked. The pools were great, especially the infinity pool which looked out over the bay. Free lounge chairs, a swim up bar, towel service, what more could you ask for? We upgraded to an ocean view room, as the island view rooms are right next to a busy road and don't seem to have much of a view. Definitely recommend staying ocean view:) The great bay hotel seems to be a bit older and outdated than the Maho Beach but our room was very clean and the shower had GREAT water pressure. The food was incredible and despite the low attendance of guests, the staff still offered activities such as outdoor movies, live music, drinking games, and bingo. When staying at either Sonesta resorts, you can visit and use the amenities at both. Maho Beach is more upbeat, kid friendly, with a lot of night life and Great Bay is more low key, relaxing, and romantic. I highly recommend choosing Sonesta Great Bay
