    Pocket Guide: United Kingdom

The United Kingdom offers an enormous variety of things to do and see. Combining rail or bus passes with cheap hotel deals in the United Kingdom can save money. Hotels in the United Kingdom range from luxury chains to quaint historic properties and simple budget options, and a special discount may be available for traveling in the off-season.

Visitors to Scotland will want to explore the historic city of Edinburgh with its medieval Old Town and 18th-century New Town. To the north, the Scottish Highlands offer stunning scenery to visitors. Off the northern coast lie a number of remote islands notable for their stark beauty.

Lovers of nature won’t want to miss the largest national park in England, the Lake District. The southern part of England includes the wild moors and coastlines of Devon and Cornwall as well as the beaches of resort towns.

A cheap United Kingdom hotel deal will make it possible to stay longer in the capital city of London where visitors can see such iconic sights as Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, and Big Ben. Throughout the United Kingdom, public museums are free, and London's National Gallery and the British Museum are among those worth a visit.

Notable parts of Wales include the capital city of Cardiff, the well-preserved medieval town of Conwy, and Hay-on-Wye, which is famous for its dozens of bookstores and yearly literary festival. Snowdonia National Park is a beautiful and popular destination for outdoors enthusiasts. Ferries from both Wales and Scotland will take visitors across the Irish Sea to Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland has largely put the troubles behind it, and today, Belfast offers a number of tours that focus on the city’s turbulent history. The Titanic Experience, site of the luxury site's doomed launch, offers visitors a number of interactive experiences. North of Belfast, the Giant's Causeway looks like an alien landscape, and legend claims its unusual basalt columns were created by the Irish giant Finn MacCool.

United Kingdom hotel deals will stretch the travel dollars further, and some United Kingdom hotel packages may include perks such as restaurants or theater tickets. Much of the region enjoys a fairly mild climate year round, and traveling during the winter may mean lower prices in United Kingdom hotels. To find top savings and the best rates, search for rooms and book reservations as early as possible.

    "Great Location"
The hotel was excellent and we would return on another visit. We found the restaurants in the hotel did not have enough casual or light dining. A coffee shop style facility would have been a welcome addition so we could pop in for a light snack in the evening. Otherwise the hotel was superb.

    "Great location!"
Very close to Covent gardens and Piccalilli circus. Good for sightseers. The hallways of the floor our room was located on seemed a little dated, but the corner room we had was very clean, comfortable felt new.Only stayed for a night but wish it was a week. Room could use a minifridge for drinks, but we just went out enough for it to not matter. Would stay there again for sure! The double room looked like it would be small, but was actually very roomy! Great place.

My wife and I had a two day stop over in England. Our general experience with hotels in England has been less than impressive so we were delighted at the Sofitel especially given that it was within the airport complex.

    "Excellent in every way!"
Location perfect, central but quiet; staff perfect, friendly, efficient, patient; room almost perfect, large enough but would have been great if slightly bigger; cleanliness perfect, spot-on in every respect; bed almost perfect, again slightly larger for a double room would have been better but nothing to complain about; good excellent, breakfast superb, early bird budget dinner in the restaurant also excellent. Thank you so much, you'll be our first choice when we return!

    "A perfect gem."
Crisp sheets, comfortable bed, clean quiet room - all so perfect after a long day of travelling. The next day, feeling restored and happy from a wonderful sleep, we discovered the breakfast buffet at the Apex Waterloo, and then began to explore Edinburgh. The location of the Apex is terrific. With the friendly help of the hotel concierge, we mapped out our day and found we could walk almost everywhere. Although we passed many tempting spots , we always enjoyed returning to the Apex's lounge for a pre dinner drink. With it's comfortable couches and chairs, big windows, and a friendly hum, it's such a nice spot to chat over the adventures of the day. We stayed in 3 hotels in Scotland during this trip and the Apex Waterloo is our clear favorite.

    "Excellent hotel in city centre"
My sister and I stayed for 3 nights on a shopping trip to Manchester. The hotel is central but no noise. Room large, very clean, comfortable beds. Excellent breakfast. Staff very attentive, polite and friendly. Cloud 23 definitely worth a visit though we did not realise the kitchen closed at 8.00pm. We would definitely go back if in Manchester again.
