“not a good experience”
got to the room and the thermostat didn't work. No one explained how breakfest would work since we prepaid and then we had to change rooms because a maid walked into the room unannounced. While the view was nice, I would prefer staying elsewhere next visit.
“Perfect place to stay to experience the Motor City”
If you are traveling to Detroit, this hotel is the perfect place with clean rooms, views of the city and river, quick access to the People Mover, restaurants, and downtown destinations.
“Ren Cen”
Rooms were clean but small
“Great Hotel”
Detroit has an undeserved bad reputation. This hotel was clean and safe. The people mover light rail stops in the hotel. Many locals park in the surrounding lots and travel to Tigers games by People mover. The Grand Circus stop is 2-3 blocks from the stadium and very safe. Hotel is located on the Detroit river with very impressive surroundings. Easy walk to the Greektown Casino and Greektown. Safe at night.
“Location is great!”
Stayed here for a free Riverfront Concert right outside. Everyone was nice and helpful when lost - its a Big hotel!
“This Hotel Confused Me”
I was disappointed by the location of this hotel. While I could have walked further uptown to the events for which I traveled to Detroit, I did not feel safe doing so, as the hotel is located in a remote part of town. The People Mover did stop at the Renaissance Center, but the hours of operation were limited (no late night service) and it was hard to find a cab home once uptown. In spite of this inconvenience, I did enjoy being on the Riverfront when I was resting between activities. The room was okay, typical hotel design, nothing special. I was disappointed that there was no refrigerator to store snacks and drinks. I enjoyed the food at Volt, the lunch and dinner lounge. Though the menu was fairly small, there was a variety of healthy options, the portions were right-sized, and the price was reasonable. I cannot say the same for breakfast at 42 North. The only option, the buffet, was way over-priced, and the food was pretty bad, too -- mostly cold, greasy slop. I stuck to the fresh fruit and had to ask the waitress to put my French toast in the microwave. On my last day, I just went ahead and ordered room service for the same price and felt it was a little bit better. Overall, the staff was friendly. Check-in and out was easy, and everyone answered my questions helpfully in between.
“Good view”
This hotel has a good view, but the room condition is not so good. The internet access is not free, and need 13 dollars a day.
“Hidden Costs in Everyway”
I just could not believe a hotel would ever charge for regular TV. This was the thing that made my jaw drop. I didn't get too upset when they charged for the internet ($12 a day) or the parking ($15 a day), but basic free TV, come on. It has quite the lobby and view, but does trap you inside the GM center and discourages actual venturing onto the streets of Detroit. Some people prefer it that way, but if you want to be around any culture, except the automotive executives mall, I would suggest a different location.
“An overall great hotel”
Some friends and I stayed at the Marriott Hotel at the Renaissance Center over the Memorial Day weekend (2011) for the Detroit Electronic Music Festival. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay. The hotel is very nice; not only is it clean and well maintained, but you can tell that they often upgrade amenities and services to stay competitive. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in Detroit.
“Not like our honeymoon”
The girl at check in was unfriendly. I asked for a view of Windsor and the river and she gave me a room facing directly at on of the towers. I asked for a higher floor near the top (like my wife and I had 20 years ago) but only got the 53rd, not the 67th like we wanted. The restaurant personnel were very nice. The rest of the staff was fine. The room was O.K.
