Four Star Disappointment!!

Posted Jun 1, 2015
Pros: Adequately clean.
Cons: Quicker check-in, keeping reservations, maintaining a service minimum.
Location: Good location.
A group of four of friends including myself booked a two double room for Memorial Day weekend, staying for Saturday and Sunday night. We arrived twenty minutes after check-in started and had an hour and a half wait to contend with right away. It seemed hotel staff were occupying less than half of the available work terminals for check-in. It's the Saturday day of Memorial Day weekend, Detroit Movement music festival is going on, a US Volleyball tournament is going on and the hotel is less than half staffed at the front desk?!? When we wait long enough to finally get to the front of the line, we are told there is no longer any rooms with double beds. Why have a reservation system if the hotel does not keep reservations? Since we were quite punctual in our arrival, it's very disappointing that our room was given to somebody else so quickly! No explanation given by staff as to how our room was lost and nothing was offered to make our stay more comfortable (out of cots too!). Needless to say, four adults in a king bed room was EXTREMELY uncomfortable! This hotel should actually try being honest with how they conduct their business. All four of us could agree, a fairly awful experience - - beginning to end.

Pros: Beautiful city and river view
Cons: Ability to accomodate bed type for prepaid bookings.
Location: Excellent and beautiful downtown location, within walking distance to various venues.
Great location, beautiful, clean hotel. Seems as though it may be understaffed, given the long check-in wait and extremely slow service -however, I stayed over the long weekend with a music festival and volleyball tournament taking place in the city. I also would like to thank Arlissa, the Health Club Attendant, who was perhaps the most kind and understanding hotel staff member I have ever encountered! Would definitely stay again.

Too expensive for the time I was there

Posted May 26, 2015
We were told we could not have a hotel room for Sunday night. Yet, I booked the room that day through Expedia. We were with a volleyball tournament and were told we could not have the group rate since the room was not available through them. That made no sense to me. Plus, we had to wait until 7pm to get our room. Hardly worth the full prIce.

First trip to Detroit. Greeted by friendly, helpful staff. Room was well-appointed and perfectly clean. Didn't spend much time elsewhere in hotel, and didn't eat there, but the room and it's views of US and Canada we're spectacular.

Great hotel downtown, close to everything

Posted May 1, 2015
The RenCen still does it for us, after all these years. With the GM upgrades, like the Wintergarden, the riverfront and the whole Riverwalk, it is a great place to stay downtown. The onsite people mover stop ($0.75 per ride) makes most things close by in the summer and winter. Without an upgrade we still had a room on the 41st floor with a great view of the river, watching freighters go by. Great shops and eateries, including the food court on the ground floor. Coach Insignia up top is the best for great views 360 degrees. Andiamos overlooking the river is superb Italian food right off the Wintergarden. Surprising that some shops closed at 6 or 7pm like the pharmacy and some of the food court joints. Valet parking is available at $25/day, or try Millers Garage across the street (west) at $20/day, Atwater parking structure (northeast, through the covered catwalk) for $20/day or our favorite, Beaubien Place structure (east through the other covered cat walk) for $15/day M-F, $9/day S-Su). The Riverwalk is terrific for a mile or more to the west, and a mile to the east to Belle Isle. Great morning stroll. We saw the Tigers play Friday, just a few blocks walk from Broadway or Grand Circus stop on the people mover. Had a breakfast package (eat at the Volt bar/cafe) and enjoyed our food on the open deck in the sunshine. We had a weekend seminar in one of the hotel ballrooms, so that was even more convenient. Until the M-1 tram on Woodward is completed, it requires a cab ride

One problem after another.

Posted Apr 26, 2015
I can't even get started with only 50 characters. Let's start with the bug in our room, the safe that was locked, nobody answering the phone at the front desk, changing our room, dead battery in safe #2 and Queen beds that are doubles!
