Very positive experience.

Posted Aug 10, 2014
Pros: Friendly helpful staff, including those who served breakfast in the mornings.
Cons: More computer/printer availability.
Location: Fairly close to most downtown Detroit attractions within walking distance. But if needed, the hotel has a free shuttle service that will take you.
Excellent staff that was very willing to help. At first I thought not being able to park my car was a negative, but it turned out to be a POSITIVE as the hotel had a wonderful valet service that was outstanding, making it easier to park and retrieve our car, with their help than if I had done it myself. Especially since finding a good parking place in downtown Detroit can be a real headache.

Nice hotel, great staff... needs updating

Posted Aug 3, 2014
We came for a tigers game with our small children. We arrived before check in time so they held our bags for us, which was great! Room was large but needed updating. Overall good stay, breakfast was great!

Staff was mostly attentive, occasionally delightful. The hotel is what you might expect, but certainly nothing more. Overall OK. There are some more well kept hotels in the area for a similar price.

Convenient downtown location near the People Mover

Posted Jul 24, 2014 on Hotels.com
I'd like to start by saying that the staff was excellent; From the valets to the registration desk, all the way to housekeeping, every employee that we encountered was delightful. The hotel itself was mediocre at best; we chose Holiday Inn Express due to the convenient location, and because it seemed to be the only downtown hotel with free breakfast, which really makes a big difference for those on a budget, such as ourselves. Holiday Inn is within a block of the People Mover, which we did use to go to dinner in Greektown. We were uncomfortable walking that block, though; we were followed and heckled by some people on the street, even by seemingly intoxicated firefighters as they were driving by in a Fire Department truck while we were coming back from dinner. The hotel was need of some maintenance and a more thorough cleaning. The elevator was questionable (we were on the 9th floor). Our room was fairly clean apart from some giant cobwebs on the ceiling. We did not have an opportunity to use the pool or the fitness center, so I can't comment on those amenities. Overall, I'd say the price of this hotel room was asking a lot based on the quality of the building, size of the room, as well as its amenities. On top of that, having to pay so much for parking adds insult to injury. It seemed the valet parking was mandatory, yet the next morning after our business appointment, we did find a significantly less expensive parking lot across the street from the hotel.

Free Shuttle Great Driver = Awesome

Posted Jul 21, 2014
Pros: Free Shuttle That Will Take You Almost Anywhere and Pick You Up Free Breakfast Free Wi-Fi Excellent Service Clean Rooms
Cons: More fruit at the breakfast buffet would be nice. And maybe a sign in each elevator to show they have been recently checked for reassurance.
Location: Five minute walk to the Cobo Convention Center.
Pros: Free Shuttle That Will Take You Almost Anywhere and Pick You Up Free Breakfast Free Wi-Fi Excellent Service Clean Rooms Cons: Hot Water Takes Time Elevators are a Bit Slow, Aged I was in Detroit for a political conference and this hotel is located only two blocks down (about a five minute walk) from the Cobo. I had a king room to myself on the 9th floor. It was very spacious, clean, and had relatively new furniture. I don't know how some of these reviewers think this is outdated. It's a Holiday Inn, not the Riviera. Anyway, you can't argue with free breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and a free shuttle that will take you to and from almost anywhere. And Q. Q is one of the shuttle drivers. Nicest and most courteous gentlemen you'll ever meet. I do have one complaint. I apparently never did figure out the trick with the shower because it took FOREVER for the water to get warm, let alone hot. And the toilet is a little strange.

A little run down, just like Detroit itself

Posted Jul 20, 2014
Pros: Good location within walking distance of Cobo Hall, Comerica Park, and Ford Field. Spacious rooms.
Cons: The general condition of the hotel and the promptness of service could be vastly improved.
Location: See above.
The hotel is starting to look a little tattered and run down. The staff were nice enough, but didn't follow through when we asked to have a roll-away bed put in one of the rooms. The initial request was made at around 6 PM before we went to a ballgame. The roll-away was still not there when we returned 4 hours later. It took 3 more trips to the front desk (the room phones were not working) before the roll-away was finally brought to our room a little after midnight. This pretty much sums up our experience with this hotel.
