Good location, extremely datedPosted Dec 8, 2014
Location was great for going to the hockey game and price was low. The rooms are in serious need of updating but it was clean and staff was friendly. You get what you pay for, didn't expect much based on the price

Adequate night's sleep if you need to save moneyPosted Nov 17, 2014
Pros: It was relatively cheap and the staff was friendly.
Cons: Be SURE to provide clothes hangers for the rack in the bthrm (there are no closets) and they should offer a GOOD complimentary continental breakfast.
Location: The place is well located (just a mile walk away) if you're attending a pricey event at the Doubletree Hotel on W. Lafayette & you need to save $$.
As far as the basics were concerned, the room was okay. It was clean, there was a working TV with a remote that you didn't need a Degree in Electronic Engineering to figure out how to operate, and the heating/ac unit worked responsively and was easy to use. You also could use the room's telephone by simply dialing "9" to get an outside line and you weren't charged extra. I made one long-distance call (back to my home in New England) and a couple of local calls to area food establishments, so I can vouch for this benefit. I imagine if you abused this courtesy, though, and made lots of long-distance calls, you would be charged and you'd deserve to be. Now for the negatives: 1) the bed mattress was pretty soft; someone with a back problem would wake up in the morning with real problems; 2) no closets--not only no closets but not even any hangers (not a one!) to use on the bathroom rack provided for that purpose; I asked them for some hangers and they said they'd provide some but they forgot my request and I never got any; 3) the first night I stayed, no hot water; in fact, the water was barely even lukewarm no matter how long you ran the faucet. I mentioned this to the front desk the next morning and they did fix it but I got in late the night before and, if I had really needed a shower at that time, there was no way that was going to happen; 4) no complimentary continental breakfast--a place with so many negatives should offer. This place better get its act together soon!

Not just a hotel stay, an experiencePosted Nov 9, 2014
Location: Burger King and downtown nearby. Grocery store also very close
I needed a hotel close to downtown for an engineering conference and just about every hotel had been booked. When I thought all hope was lost, out of the nothing the infamous Corktown Inn popped up. The room was very cheap compared to the rest in the area so I went ahead and took the risk knowing very little about what was to come. Upon arrival I entered the lobby to find the receptionist behind bulletproof glass. Check in was very fast and painless. It is important to mention that the hotel is not in a very nice suburb but during the day it is very possible to walk to downtown in 15 minutes and take a cheap Uber back at night. There is a Burger King a few blocks away and a recently renovated park across the street. Upon entering the room everything looked neatly in place and the bulletproof glass served as an excellent insulator for the room. The TV has an excellent selection of cable channels and what I found interesting was that there was a premium channel to view all the security cameras with hard rock music playing in the background. If made the experience much more suspenseful and it kept me at ease knowing I could watch over the vehicles and local surroundings. The bathroom was very clean and out of the three days I was there, the shower had cold water on two so I was very happy with my luck. Once it came time to sleep the bed was very comfortable and the sheets were clean. Will definitely stay again. Everyone deserves to experience the Corktown experience.

Enjoyed myself!Posted Nov 9, 2014
The hotel was grest. It was clean not alot of traffic in and out. Quiet and very peaceful. My only problem was the elevator close to my room stop working. But everything else was nice. Close to restaurants. I would definitely go back.

Detroit Marathon StayPosted Oct 21, 2014
The hotel was in a great location for my race, a 10 minute walk to the start line. They allowed late check-out to shower after the race at no additional charge. The staff was pleasant and curtious. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. However the clock radio did not work, one lamp had a burnt out light bulb and the gate on the gated parking lot was broken. There was also NO HOT WATER for morning showers pre-race. It was repaired and working for my post race shower.
