“Great hotel and can't beat the location!”
Birmingham is such a cute town with great shops, restaurants, parks and housing. The Townsend is the only local hotel and puts you right in the middle of it all.
“Nice hotel, great location, would return again”
The hotel is very nice and within walking distance to hundreds of shops. Street parking is easy and safe. The front desk staff were very nice. The streets around the hotel are a bit loud but worth the trade off given it's location. The suites are nice and have a small balcony you can go out on to grab some fresh air or a cigar. My only complaint is that we could hear the overnight cleaning crew moving chairs in the lobby restaurant as our room on the second floor. Again, no big deal. The suite was very nice size and had nice furnishings. Nice minibar. Rooms look like Ritz Carlton rooms. Free coffee in the lobby every morning. We had a nice experience. This hotel is not the Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons, but was very charming. I would stay there again. Despite other reviews, we found the beds very comfortable and, the hotel very nice and we have stayed in top hotels throughout the world. I think the hotel is slightly overpriced but it is a boutique hotel that is considered tops in the Detroit metro area.
“Unique and beautiful setting”
We enjoyed our stay at the Townsend hotel tremendously. Service was fantastic. Not your run-of-the mill chain hotel. Truly unique. We did have one problem the first night. Turns out our room was directly over the bar. The sound of the band was annoying and kept my husband awake until 2:00 a.m. The hotel staff helped us move to another room the next day.....so we ended up with a nicer room for the same price.
“Terrible nights sleep”
I stay at hotels all over the country. Usually 2-3 per month at least. This is by far one of the worst nights I have ever spent in a hotel. Let alone the cost of staying at this location. We had a 2-room suite. So the bedroom was closed off from the main living area. However, the blower for the furnace was in the room with us. And every 15 minutes the thing would turn on and wake me up. I would have turned it off if it was 15 degrees outside. But I struggled through the night. I couldn't wait to wake up and leave. Until this "high class" hotel gets some updates, I won't be recommending it to anyone.
“Big Bucks Disappointment”
Made reservations 7 weeks in advance for a suite. Upon checking in we were informed no suites were available. We were given a "King" room; went up to the room and found it was still being cleaned at 4 pm. Went back down to the lobby to have them move us to yet another room. The second night our keys did not work, made another trip to the lobby to be inform that they moved us to a suite. We were so unhappy with the service that we checked out a day early.
“Very Bad Experience Find a different Hotel.”
The hotel had mold in the bathroom and a worn out bed very lumpy with holes in it. When we had to extend out stay, we did not stay here but found a much better hotel at a better price. The food at the restaurant was not very good, very poor selection and very small portions at a very high price. Overall the hotel is very overrated and very expensive for what you get.
