Lovely hotel in the centre of Exeter.Posted Aug 10, 2014
We enjoyed really enjoyed our stay in the Royal Clarence, the only negative point was that because our room had a bath, we didn't have a shower. The bath was lovely but a little impractical in the morning. The staff were really helpful and the room was lovely.

Nice location but there were maintenance issuesPosted Jul 21, 2014
Pros: Great dining room and location is better than none.
The beds were very comfortable and the room (103h whilst small had great air conditioning. The down sides were the extractor was not working in the shower, the tv just said weak/no signal and we couldn't get it to work. In addition the shelf in the bathroom was sloping and my glass of water slipped off it. Lastly the design of the wardrobes is not great - the larger door has a full length mirror on the inside but you couldn't open it wide enough to see yourself as the bed stopped the door from opening. Perhaps we were just unlucky on the day though I did point out these issues to the staff who didn't seem surprised when we left.

Good location opposite CathederalPosted Jun 5, 2014
Cons: Restaurant was disappionting. Service was very slow and while food was of reasonable quality - it did not match our expectations.
Location: The Cathederal is well worth a visit.
A pleasant place for a short stay in Exeter but whilst it is in a good tourist location it is about a 10 minute walk to the unpleasant municipal car park where the hotel has a discounted rate. This rate was meant to be for 9 repeat entries to the car park, but in fact there was only credit for 1 repeat entry.

Fantastic hotel in a brilliant location, extremely comfy bed, luxurious room, fantastic view out of the window. A superb hotel all in all, the only downside is the distance to the car park. It was ok in the lovely sunshine but wouldn't be pleasant if the weather was wet!

In the cathedral yard, no better place to be in Exeter. Small room but very modern. Mattress was very soft and perfect for a good night sleep.

Great Hotel but !Posted May 9, 2014 on Hotels.com
This hotel was very good, staff were friendly, rooms were great, but......., if you are slightly on the large side then you will struggle to move in the bathroom of the standard room, I spent quite a bit in the Cafe and they then sneeked on a service charge (which I don't like and I got it removed) and the restaurant couldn't take 5 of us for dinner even though they didn't look busy and when we came back from eating they were still quiet. Also the car park is a good 5 minute walk from the hotel and a bit exposed. My measure though is always would I stay here again and the answer is definately.

Well ...Posted May 8, 2014 on Hotels.com
Great location and seemingly nice though the decor is now a little tired throughout. Price was good had everything been great but our room at night had air con that could only be set at freezing or off. We tried off but then the room became a bit sauna like with lack of air flow despite opening the window. So we huddled under the duvet with the air con on not able to put an extremity outside in case it froze off! The linen was lovely and soft but let down by the mattress being quite soft and slightly saggy. The staff were good and friendly but there was some concern at some point if the council run car park where they recommend you park would be open in time and allow us to get our car out in time for our early morning flight. Don't park in the section of the car park that closes overnight if you're planning to drive off before 6 am! We didn't eat or have breakfast there so can't comment on the food. £4.65 for a bottle of water though was taking the Michael!!
