The Duke is an absolutely stunning building but it needs serious investment. All looking a bit tired. The staff were lovely, the location perfect and our stay overall was fine.

Staff were very welcoming and attentive throughout our stay. The room was large and comfortable however the mattress was quite uncomfortable and the pillows weren’t the comfiest even after requesting an additional 2. Great breakfast and value as it was included in our room rate. Great location, easy to access town and local sights

I booked a single room for 2 nights and was allocated room 105. My first impressions of the hotel were quite good as it is a beautiful old building, however the room was not great. The window frame was rotten and a constant breeze blew through as the weather outside was foul, the net curtain was half the width of the window and the curtains were old and different lengths. The bed was OK and also the bathroom. Although there was a kettle, the tea bags, milk and sugar were not topped up, so not much use on the second day. Breakfast was very limited. No fresh fruit or yoghurts were available throughout my stay and limited pastries and cereal selection. So some things were OK, but plenty of room for improvement.

This is not a brand new hotel but a building with character. Great value for money, a good choice at breakfast, attentive staff. Clean, warm and hospitable and a convient location for before and after events at the pavilions.

Bit dated in decor, room was small and basic. But for one night it was fine. Breakfast was over priced. Staff were lovely. If you just need a place to crash, or expecting a fancy hotel then it’s ideal.

This is second visit in few months and added extra night on this weeks stay - this is a warm, clean, welcoming hotel with wonderful staff and they are a credit to the hotel. Can’t recommend highly enough and will be a regular guest. The food and rooms are amazing but it is the staff that make any organisation - and every one every visit has been genuine, kind, caring, friendly, welcoming and go above and beyond. Staff stay here as well - that says a lot. Thank you to staff and it’s rare for me to want to leave home!

Disappointing. Good points: friendly staff, decent breakfast, clean rooms. Not-so-good points: tired and dreary décor with limited facilities. Room issues included windows that didn't close properly causing strong draughts within the room. Toilet flush didn't work properly. Bathroom taps stopped working completely at one point (although they were fixed promptly). It's clear that the hotel needs some considerable investment to bring it up to the building's imposing stature.

Usually stay here when picking up my son from uni. Normally very good, however on this occasion there was an all night party in room 508 directly above us. Finally went down to reception at 5am after the party ended with them screeching out the car park. By the time I’d arrived at reception the night staff were already checking the room for damage and confirmed my suspicions. I have been in contact with the hotel on several occasions about a partial or full refund, this has been met by silence after several promises they would come back to me. Very poor show from the management, this is a shame as it’s a nice place to stay.

Stayed here as attending show at Plymouth Pavilions. Couldn’t get closer - literally just across the road. Check in easy and friendly. Got a space in small hotel car park which has short walk-through to hotel. Superior room spacious with shower and bath ~ both of us happy. No hairdryer in room. Had pre-show set meal = perfect, and as happy hour pints etc were £3.50. Only thing that let it down was breakfast - served till 9.30 except Sun, so got there just after 9 - no tables so had to wait with 3 other couples in lounge till table free. Then no pastries, coffee ran out, hot water ran out and some couples had to wait quite a while for hot breakfast order to be taken. All drinks / pastries were replenished but there was a lot of waiting around. If they addressed this, they’d have got 5 stars.
