“Browns Hotel”

Central yet quiet. The hotel had a very relaxed atmosphere. The food was excellent, including the continental breakfast.

“Really friendly staff,”

On arrival the staff could not have been more helpful or obliging. We found the hotel very comfortable. Our food was very tasty and beautifully presented. One comment I would like to make and this is not a criticism, is that they would benefit from providing a bar menu, Instead of bistro/fine dining, as they were both similar in quantity and price. We had a very nice stay and would recommend the hotel highly.

My stay at the Brown's hotel was everyhting a traveller might want from a hotel in the middle of a countryside tour.The quality of the service was superb. I was extremely satisfied by their kindness and their offer to help. I would definately recommend this hotel as a pleasant, quiet and traditional English lodging with people that make you feel welcome right from the start. The room was a bit small though I wouldnt't expect anything bigger since it was a single stay.It was extremely clean though and the bed and linen were exquisite.Fine toiletries were supplied which was a surpise.The food both at the breakfast and the dinner was of excellent quality.The Brasserie was more updated than many London's equivelants.Room service was rapid and well taken care after. I wasn't going to return to Tavistock,since my business was over, if it wasnt't for Brown's.I will definately return.5 star stay!!!

“Restaurant is a must !!”

We went end of September and our room overlooked the courtyard which had seats and tables laid out,but was too cold to sit outside. The bedroom windows all opened onto this area and it was noisy enough but would have been terrible if people were sitting out there all evening .You could also here people from the restaurant( there was a very noisy group in there) as it was part covered with a conservatory roof,also people kept stepping outside for a cigarette and chatting loudly so dont stay here if you like to go to bed before the pubs and restaurants shut. We havent been in that area before so perhaps its always like that so go to the countryside if you want peace and quite. However the Restaurant was absolutely fantastic and not to be missed .Definately up there with all the greats ,and would beat places not only in London but in a great many other places in the world. We travel quite a lot and the cuisine reminded us a lot of our many trips in France. Amazed they have not won awards!!! Excellent presentation, Wine good price too!

“Great place , with superb food!”

This is a great find with rooms of character, not like most hotels these days . The sevice was equally good. The chef who is now well known after a TV appearance was very interesting and helpful. I hope he is still there next year!

“Fantastic Boutique Hotel”

Would recommend this hotel to anyone! The owner went out her way to make this a wonderful stay. Excellent food in the hotel restaurant and try the other restaurant the hotel owns on dartmoor if you get chance - a real gem!

“Overnite stay.”

The hotel was everything we expected from the photographs and more. I rang in advance as we were travelling some way for a wedding and wanted to be able to leave our luggage before check-in. The staff were friendly and helpful, explaining that they would try to have our room available for us, but couldn't promise as it was occupied the night before. On arrival we found we were able to check in, which was fantastic, as we were able to freshen up in our luxurious surroundings. The bed was extremely comfortable and breakfast was excellent. Can't wait to revisit Room 11 again. Many thanks everyone.

“well worth visiting”

Staff are very friendly and helpful. Tv reception was poor in our room and wi fi would have made the stay much easier. Excellent that there is a lift for those with disabilities.

“They're trying, but it's not right just yet...”

We stayed two nights at Browns in Tavistock, a couple of nights apart, and we experienced two separate rooms - both were a 'standard double'. The first room was at the front of the hotel and our sleep was interrupted by noise from outside the hotel (boy racers and pub-goers) and from people walking around in the room above. The chair in the room was stained. The second room was quieter, but the bathroom smelled of sewerage and there were blood flecks embedded in the wood around the toilet door - disgusting. The hotel missed out on some essential touches - we couldn't find any tissues in the bedroom, and at breakfast we were charged for our newspaper. So, while the staff were friendly and helpful and the location was ideal, we won't be staying here again.
