CLEAN AND COMFORTABLEPosted Mar 10, 2015
Pros: ALL FINE
Cons: WE HAD A STANDARD ROOM, BIT CRAMPED AND MAY GO DELUXE IF WE RETURN
CONVENIENT LOCATION NOT TOO FAR FROM MARINA AND GOOD CHOICE OF RESTAURANTS NEAR BY.. DECOR A BIT OTT FOR US AND MUST BE A NIGHTMARE TO CLEAN - BUT IT WAS VERY CLEAN. EXCELLENT CHOICE OF BREAKFAST AND WELL PRESENTED. NICE TOUCH WAS CAKE AND FRUIT AVAILABLE AFTERNOON ONWARDS.

A gem of a place!!!Posted Jan 21, 2015 on Hotels.com
This hotel is an amazing place to stay. From the minute we arrived until we left the staff were excellent with their service and also recommendations of things to see and do plus restaurants and bars to try. Breakfast also excellent with a wide range of choice. Overall an excellent place to stay.

Great location, nice rooms and good servicePosted Dec 24, 2014 on Hotels.com
A short break before Christmas and the hotel deserves its good reputation - we tried to find three things we could improve and struggled.......at a push we would say that the plumbing could be upgraded (low water pressure, but the bathroom was really nice), wifi was free but a bit feeble, anything would really be nit picking! Overall a really nice, slightly old fashioned place in a good location, closer to the town centre than some of the big hotels in between the Old Vienna and the Shack

Thanks for the great comments and score. We have had a look at the wifi issue and added a booster which appears to have sorted the issue. Being an old building, the hot water pressure can vary depending upon use but since all the showers are fed by the extremely powerful cold water supply it tends to mean that the only inconvenience is that the baths in the suites take a little longer to fill. We don't accept we are old fashioned as our rooms are bang up to date; we have chosen a more classic style. Obviously taste is deeply personal but our pictures on the site will help guests decide if it's their cup of tea.....

Pros: comfort, breakfast, attention to detail
My wife and I booked a junior suite here for a couple of nights and were very impressed. My occupation means that I stay in a lot of hotels of all standards around the UK, most of which do not deserve the star rating they get - especially the 4 and 5 star ones. The attention to detail was the best my wife and I have ever seen in a hotel of any star rating. It is very tastefully decorated and furnished, the bed was very comfortable (memory foam) and the whole place was absolutely spotless. There were some very thoughtful touches like free fresh fruit and various cakes in the corridor together with a fridge with small jugs of fresh milk for tea/coffee. For a very reasonable 9 quid there was a full or light English breakfast on offer as well as a huge variety of fruit and cereals - I couldn't think of any obvious additions which could be made. The hosts Adam & Grant made us feel very welcome and seemed genuinely nice people, not forgetting their 2 lovely Dachshunds Hector & Oscar who were allowed to trot around the ground floor after the breakfast session had finished. One of the best things we found in our room was the most comprehensive guide to the hotel, surrounding area and pubs and restaurants we have ever seen - anywhere. It even included some amusing negative reviews of some eating places; it was beautifully thought out and presented and was typical of the care and attention to detail we experienced during our stay. Thanks chaps - we'll definitely be back!!

Fabulous HotelPosted Nov 3, 2014 on Hotels.com
Fabulous Hotel with sumptuous and beautifully decorated room. The attention to detail is incredible with every need being considered to ensure our stay was perfect. The breakfast was the best selection and quality we have had anywhere and all the staff were very helpful and friendly. Their hotel and Torquay guide book in the room was very informative and humorously written with honest reviews of local restaurants. We would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone.
