“Convenient location but lacking in charm”

We were driving from the UK to Italy and we wanted a convenient reasonably priced hotel near the motorway. This hotel cost a bit more than we hoped for but Belgium seems pretty expensive. It was pleasant enough for an overnight stay. It is located right on the motorway, in a service area on the northbound carriageway. We did not realise this from the map and spent some time trying to find it until I by chance saw a taxi driver and asked him . The other tip I would give to people is that there is a road crossing over from the service area to the southbound carriageway but it is not visually obvious standing in front of the hotel. It is worth finding as it saves a few miles as a shortcut. It goes through some byroads before getting to the motorway again. I would stay in this hotel again in the same circumstances, but not for a straightforward holiday, as in that case I would prefer something a bit prettier as an immediate location.
