“Does what it says it will do”
Don't be put off by the surrounding area of this hotel, it looks out on a filling station and the fairly dirty and run-down neighbourhood (by western standards) is full of of men (mainly from the sub-continent but also locals) busy in car upholstery shops, small markets, restaurants, etc. On the 10-minute walk to the Souq Waqif we never saw another woman than my wife. However, in this part of the world, such areas are absolutely safe and people are respectful on the street. You can walk back to the hotel at night in total safety and will not ever be approached or bothered by anyone.
The hotel itself is just what it wants to be: a budget, no-frills, business hotel, that is clean and well-run. The furniture we would describe as 'industrial Ikea', and the bed was small but comfortable. The shower was fantastic. The front desk were brilliant at finding us a hire car at an excellent rate (mind you, it took three hours in all to get the car - this is the Middle East!) and any request we made, such as a toilet seat needing a hinge, was fulfilled quickly and efficiently. The swimming pool and gym on the 11th floor are new-looking and clean; even inviting if you like that sort of thing.
The breakfast buffet was adequate for the money, but you wouldn't confuse it for a 5-star spread by any means.
Our a/c was loud and we suspected it was stuck on high, even if you set it for medium or low. We should have complained, but it wasn't that big a deal. Perfect hotel for a short stay.
