“Spectacular views”

A little noisy during friday night happy hour in the nearby hotel bar. Breakfast is a little disorganised. Overall a very pleasant experience. The deluxe oceanfront rooms are generously sized and have killer views complete with caribbean sunset. Hotel amenities are near resort level. The trek from Mellville Hall Airport is around 2 hours (depending on road closures), roads are narrow and road signs are a rarity, so pack a map and try not to arrive at sunset as we did.

“Very Nice hotel to stay at.”

“My Weekend Get Away at the Beautiful Fort Young”

s.At Breakfast i paid basically $50EC for a buffet style breakfast.I was under the knowledge that breakfast was included but since they presented me with a bill i guess i was mistaken.at check out i query this and they informed me that i shouldn't have been charged.During the course of the day, i took some time to explore the hotel , lovely hotel. beautiful breathtaking relaxing view. staff helpful and friendly...activity desk organize a private tour totally enjoyed.Hotel is very central to the capital. i had an ocean view and it was gorgeous.. room was nice.....bathroom massive .The elevators don't work., e confusing when moving around.. hard to identify where the front desk is located and where certain rooms are...but it is understandable to some extent.....the pool is nice (infinity)On my day of check out my flight was late afternoon so checked out at 12 and decided to get something to eat ..snack wise....went to the restaurant to get a chicken wrap.....there was no sense of organisation...i was sent up the stairs ....down the stairs, then back up then back down .....because of lack of communication between staff...my food took forever and when it came not even cutlery i was presented with, no ketchup for my friars nothing just a dry chicken wrap minus the dressings i requested....by the time they came it was time for me to jet off to the airport so had to take it to go...during that time i was still awaiting ketchup...had to go back upstairs to get it on my own.....

Area recommendations

Do Visit Trafalgar Falls! Do visit SCREWS sulphuric pool....and do it with ur significant other....i went alone and it was nice but could see it being nicer....the water is lovely and its warm.....visit it in the night if you can Do a mountain trail to the boiling springs Do take a walk around town

Dining

It was hard for me to find a nice restaurant there closeby......Do not try to think you can get anything from outside on a sunday.....its like a ghost town

Nightlife

There is no night life for tourist on a saturday...hot nights are thurs and fri.....the island is more of a relaxation spot...so if you like to party this isn't the place.....they more are into doing activities amongst themselves but not geared to tourist....there are no cinema etc

The Fort Young Hotel is in Roseau, making it one of only a handful of places convenient to all parts of the island without renting a car. It has the most services of all the hotels: Tours leave from the hotel; there is a snorkel/dive shop on the grounds; there is a pool that overlooks to Caribbean, which is key on an island without sand beaches; the hotel's restaurant is one of only a few places open for dinner in town. Lunch has more options.

“Such a lovely experience”

The food menue was the same every day. The hotel needs to improve the food menue to a larger selection. Everything else at the hotel was excellent.

In general the city is fun to walk around and it is a good idea to try different restaurants around the area.

“Fort Young”

Accomodations were very good. Scuba and other activities were convenient and well managed. Food was good, but expensive. Breakfast buffet was fresh and had many locally fresh items. Night life and general entertaiment was non-existent. US currency was widely accepted, but banking and cash machines were sparse. Supermarkets and general shopping was poor, so most everything had to be purchased at the hotel at high prices.

Area recommendations

None. Stay at hotel proper for 95%. Excursions are fun, but very physical hikes are envolved, so bring good hiking footwear. Sulfure Springs looked interesting, but didn't have time to try.

Getting there

Take direct flight to San Juan if possible. American Eagle had one flight per day at 1PM, so getting there in one day can be difficult.

“I really love it, I would do it again, beautiful Island”

“Left part of my Heart @ Fort Young...”

Would recommend anyone looking for a Hotel in Dominica ...Use Expedia..... LInk to the best hotel ever Fort Young Hotel....Convenient to all the shopping "Duty Free" make sure you have your passport and Ticket while shopping DF. From Fort Young you have easy access to all the local shops..It is one of the safest Islands I have been to.The people are so friendly and so helpful.Must try the Rum Punch @ Fort Young the best on the Island.Go relax and dip in the Sulpher Springs...run by Mr Screws of the Screw bar...Took 5 year off.From Fort Young you were able to see daily all the cruise ships coming in...nature lover,diver,bird watching,Catholic..84%..fishing and just plain old want to relax go to Fort Young and they will hook you up........

What to pack

swim suits, flip flops,sun glasses,casual wear,evening wear to dine @ Waterfront Restaurant.... Fort Young supplys shampoo,conditioner,lotion,soap,ironing board/iron,safe...some rooms are eqipped with fridge.Really gointg there I mostly wore capris and tops sandals...

Shopping

Must visit the Duty Free @ Fort Young Hotel...Lands for a one stop shopping experience...shoes,bags,cigars,perfume and duty feee bottles of Rum...etc. Looking for local art see the street vendors they are all friendly and helpful..

“Good location, friendly staff, etc...”

Just returned from recent trip to Dominica, stayed at the Ft. Young Hotel--excellent from the start--upgraded to ocean front room, very comfortable room with king bed, refridgerater, and like I said ocean front terrace. 5 minutes walking distance to town, several good restaurants--don't miss Pearl's, Cornerside Cafe, and New Century Chinese. Even the food at the Bala's Bar in the hotel was good. Pool with water fall very nice, but a little cool for late afternoon and evening swimming. Dive center great, pick you up at the private boat dock in front of hotel. Three cruise ships came in during our stay, make town seem busy but not bad. Don't miss the manager's reception on Monday's--watch out for the strong (very strong) rum punches--and make sure that you can attend the Friday night Happy Hour/BBQ--good ribs and live band. My wife and I had a great stay at this hotel.

Traveler's tip

Dive Dominica great dive company to use--divemasters Stinger and Kevin are great as is boat captain Marcus. Nice boat with bathroom. Easy to get on and off boat--great dive sites in the Scott's Head area--lots to see. Driving the island can be a little challanging, there are no posted speed limits and very few road signs--but it is really hard to get lost. There is also allot of road construction. Hiking to waterfalls also very good.
