Pros: The town was nice.
Cons: Better lighting in the rooms. We only had one dim light to read by. Hanging area was above the refrigerator and didn't have enough room to hang clot
Location: Great fireworks display. I would visit again for the fireworks, but wouldn't stay at this hotel. Algoma is were we would stay.
Booked thru Expedia. Said we would have a view. Checked in and got a room on the top floor (3rd) with a view of the street. Lady at the counter said for what we were paying that was as good as it gets. Had to haul luggage up the carpeted stairs. We are in our 60's and this wasn't ideal.

Nice place w/lots of character

Posted Jun 23, 2014
A historic hotel building, antique furniture; haven't seen the 'friendly ghosts' that reportedly inhabit the place---the hotel staff is really nice and friendly though. Nice, really inexpensive bar with some nice beer available, decent pizza with tons of cheese from the restaurant, free coffee and other breakfast stuff in the morning.

Okay hotel

Posted Jun 17, 2014
Pros: Staff was nice
Cons: Mattress
Location: Nothing to do. Everything in town is drying up. If it had not been for the hotel, I would have had to drive 10 miles to get food.
It was an okay stay. Nothing worth writing about as I was only there for a few days rest.

Lots of character...and a ghost?

Posted May 31, 2014
Pros: Charm, location (close to Door County), price. Oh, so much better than an inexpensive chain, and not much more.
Cons: Hmmm...the piano in the ballroom/lobby could stand a tuning. Also, the upright bass next to it had no strings. :(
Location: Walk to the lighthouse, tour the old tugboat. There was a "Model T Festival" the following day.
A small, family-owned landmark property. Lots of charm and comfort, great night-life nearby (a live band...a good one, at that!), also a good value. Absolutely nothing I could complain about, and a memorable stay. At the nearby pub, a local asked me if I knew about the ghosts...potentially a little excitement, but he/she did not appear. (It's room 302...I think. Ask the proprietors and they'll be happy to tell you!) They have several beautiful jacuzzi rooms (like, really romantic), but I was there with a family.

unique hotel, amazing staff, great time!

We were warmly greeted by staff and the entire hotel is unique with its location and history. We had dinner at the hotel and the food was good. The locals and staff at the hotel bar were welcoming and their company made for such a great time! We will definitely visit again!

A bit creepy (not ghostly creepy)

Posted Mar 17, 2014
Pros: Great Bar, Great food, Very nice staff.
Cons: CURTAINS! I hope in the future the rooms would get more period furniture, or at least reproduction pieces. Present decor is kind of cheezy
Location: Beautiful view of the lighthouse on (what I call) the poor mans ocean.
We have stayed here many times and enjoyed it. This time however our room was on the inside perimeter. There were two large windows facing a brick wall........not quite. Just a wall would have been ok but there were two windows facing us and the distance between was appr. four feet! The real creepy part was we had no curtains! Needless to say I didn't get any that night and I will be sure in the future to get an outside room. PS: Excellent Pizza

Solid hotel and a good place to stay

It's old. It's got character. It's clean. They made a pretty much made to order breakfast in the morning. How can you complain with any of that? Oh - and an oddity in todays world? Analog keys!
