Comfortable hotel with easy access to overcliffPosted Mar 7, 2014
Pros: Lots of areas for relaxing - extensive lounge and bar facilities. Availability of spa facilities. Close to the overcliff and beach. Large car park.
Cons: The breakfasts - more variety, better quality. The bathroom facilities - require updating, particularly the shower.
Location: Bournemouth West Cliff with easy access to the overcliff, beach, pier, gardens and the BIC concert hall. Russell-Cotes museum well worth a visit.
My 4-night stay at this large hotel close to the clifftop was comfortable in a clean adequately furnished light double room. Unfortunately, the bathroom facilities were basic with an old over-the-bath shower - impossible to adjust the temperature and could have been dangerous (scalding). I booked on a bed and breakfast basis but I found the breakfast very uninspiring - a limited choice of fruit (melon, prunes and grapefruit stayed the same every day), cooked breakfast items the same every day and fairly unappetising, especially the "wet" pretty solid scrambled egg, dry tomatoes, hard bacon. The worst offering was the ham and cheese (available on request) which I expected would be continental style but instead was grated cheddar cheese with some rather unappetising grey-looking ham off the bone. The tea/coffee machine was out of order for the last 2 days of my stay although the restaurant manager offered a choice of tea or coffee on arrival which was brought to the table. A rather ancient "industrial-style" toaster was available on a self-service basis and seemed to be regulated on the first 2 mornings so that the bread had to be re-toasted and then on the last 2 mornings came out rather burnt - a notice advised that guests should not attempt to adjust the temperature setting themselves. I would certainly have complained direct to the hotel if I had had to pay £13.95 for this breakfast which was the posted charge for room-only guests. Staff generally very helpful.

Pros: Large room
Cons: Vegetarian breakfast (at least add mushrooms or veggie sausages)
Very spacious room. We didnt eat at hotel apart from breakfast as we are vegan. The staff were curteous, and the bed large and comfy. Will definitely return

Good hotel no problems, location okPosted Feb 24, 2014
Pros: Warm, Friendly, clean, and good position if you didn't insist on panoramic views
Cons: there was some sort of group booking on our last day, and we had breakfast in a different room, which was in a very poor state.
Location: On foot there is a lovely coastal walk, into town or westward.
We stayed for four nights, the room was warm and comfortable, two armchairs, plenty of room for belongings, and clothes. The room contained a fridge ironing press, hair dryer,TV . The only real downside was the view, which overlooked the car park, having said that there were probably no nice views as larger buildings were preventing much better than ours. We were using public transport, and although there was a bus stop close by, the time of the year dictated the infrequency. The hotel is a good 10 minutes walk into town, and has a fairly steep hill on return. There is a very nice sea view walk on to the pier, gardens, and town centre.

Good central locationPosted Feb 20, 2014
The hotel offered rooms at a very good rate. The staff were very helpful but the hotel is in need of refurbishment and looks a bit tired in places. The room was large with a very comfortable bed and a nice table to sit at in the window but unfortunately we were disturbed by a lot of noise from the bar and the smell of food from the Italian restaurant beneath our room. When we talked to the manager, he was very apologetic and explained that the bar is normally very quiet. He did offer us another room to catch up on our sleep. The price for the room was very reasonable and included an adequate breakfast.

Great hotel location, Close to beach and WestcliffPosted Jan 3, 2014
Pros: It was pet and family friendly. Great atmosphere ad helpful staff. Breakfasts were excellent and plentiful
Cons: The decor is dated in some places.........but it is beingrefreshed.
Location: Great location, near sea, beaches and a short walk to town. Definitely recommend trips to Westbourne, Sandbanks and Poole. Some excellent parks.
We stayed at the Wessex for a Twixmas break and had a brilliant time. The hotel was in a great location about 7 min walk into town and all the facilities of Bournemouth. The beach was very close. Each morning I would walk our dogs to the Park and beach which were 2 mins away. I was really pleased with the two rooms I has booked for our family. They were clean and the bathrooms was freshly tiled. As the hotel was dog friendly we found it great fro our two spaniels. There was no problem at all and each evening the other guests and their pets would sit in the comfortable lounges. We has a great break and would definitely return again1 Thanks Wessex for a great break and excellent service.

Good for the price at £94 for two nights b and b.Posted Dec 31, 2013
Pros: Good price and near to facilities
Cons: Indoor pool was closed and also the Italian restaurant on site. Entertainment would have been better in lounge bar as ballroom too big.
Location: Turn right and 5 minute walk to Harvester on sea front.
Good Twixmas break walking distance to shops, cliff top and beach.

GREAT LOCATIONPosted Nov 29, 2013 on Hotels.com
The Wessex is an excellent hotel, and while it could do with some updating, it was very comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is very good - just across the road for a walk along the cliffs and down to the beach. Also it is a very easy walk into town.
