Great find

Lovely hotel, part of the Citotel chain. We arrived late having driven straight from the ferry at Ijmuiden. The night porter came outside to meet us. He was very friendly and helpful, which is exactly what you need after a 10 hour drive. We were in a twin room on the first floor. After walking past all the other smart new doors to reach ours. It was a bit disturbing to find a well used door leading to our room. However the room was lovely, spacious and clean. We overlooked the front of the hotel, but there wasn't an issue with noise. All the staff were friendly. The breakfast was great. We found the hotel well situated for the Citadel and the old town centre. If we were in this part of France again we would certainly return.

Quaint Hotel Close to the Centre and Citadel

The Granvelle was a nice hotel in Besancon. The room was clean and tidy. A good bathroom with a nice shower. It was quite warm while we were there and, although it had air conditioning, the room was quite warm all the time. The hotel staff were polite and friendly. It was within walking distance of everything. Great location. Parking space booked in advanced was good value.

Pros: Staff and breakfast.
Cons: Room and bath size. Also beds are very firm which they were everywhere in Europe.
Location: Great for walking into town, You have to go to the Citadel, very cool place.
This was our first hotel we stayed at during our 2-1/2 week trip to Europe. We knew from many other reviews of hotels in Europe that they would be small. The room was not the smallest we stayed in, the bathroom pretty tight, the shower especially small. The staff was wonderful. Julian was great when we arrived, helped us get parked (free) and gave us some info on restaurants in town. The following morning we had a good breakfast and the lady at the desk (cannot remember her name) was extremely helpful to us trying to get info on a tour. She even called them for us and found out thier opening times. Overall staff was excellent. Enjoyed the one night.
