nice hotel, but far from perfect location

Posted Oct 28, 2013 on Hotels.com
The hostess was very nice and welcoming. She upgraded our stay from a simple room to a suit with a private garden patio without charging more for that. The hotel is furnished and decorated with taste, very clean, with fresh cut flowers everywhere. The indian restaurant near the hotel served delicious food for a decent price and we had our romantic dinner in our private garden. The location is not a destination itself, but it was on our way and we had a nice drive through the green hills and pastures.

A quiet retreat but still close to everything.

Posted Oct 23, 2013
Pros: I liked the room, well decorated, spotlessly clean and very comfortable for our two night stay.
Cons: No.The owners who live close by have tried to think of everything to cater for their guests.
Location: Located by the water this little seaside town has quite a bit of history to explore.Easy drive to high spots close by for good views.
A comfortable little hotel very tastefully furnished. Our room had everything you could ask for.A very comfy bed and real coffee. There is a very good indian restaurant next door.and also a very good Thai restaurant close by.A very easy hotel to suggest.

Mangonui's best

Posted Jun 9, 2013
Pros: Historical ambience and touches
Cons: None
Location: Central in Mangonui, a beautiful old building with fruit and veg gardens you can help yourself to.
A beautiful old building with all mod-cons. The perfect position on the harbour front in Mangonui, ans walking distance to all the attractions. The owners couldn't be more helpful.

Restaurant closed

Posted Dec 14, 2012
Pros: Clean room.
Cons: False advertising re restaurant.
We booked this hotel because it advertised a top restaurant next door. This was important to us to avoid driving to dinner. The restaurant is closed!!! The listing needs to be updated.

Friendly, Wonderful Stay!

Posted Dec 13, 2012
Pros: Attention to detail--the history of the renovation of the hotel was amazing and great thought went into creating rooms that allowed one to relax.
Cons: There was nothing that bothered us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay:)
Location: Hotel is on the waterfront at south end of old fishing village with many renovated buildings
Jean and Gary were wonderful hosts. This place has everything--history, charm, nice views and a short walk to a market and great restaurants (the Thai one was our personal favorite!). The remodeled hotel was beautiful and our suite had everything that we could want. The air conditioner/heater was quiet and road noise was amazingly minimal even though our room was on the road side of the building. We hiked, tramped as they say here in NZ, around the Karikari Peninsula and up to Cape Reinga and the hotel was a great home base to see it all. Jean was a great source of information on sights to see and how to get to them. We would stay again for sure if we return to this part of NZ
