500 west hotel

Posted Mar 30, 2015
The only ok place in the hotel is the lobby, the rest of it is horrible. I was trying to save some money by staying on a cheaper hotel but it was a bad idea. When I got in the room, I felt like a was in jail. The room was way too small, of course there was no bathroom inside, unfortunately I had to share which it was nasty. Don't believe the webside, the pics of the rooms are not real.

Least expensive downtown option

Posted Mar 28, 2015
Pros: The price and the location though parking is expensive.
This hotel is the old YMCA. It is cheap and very, very basic. But sadly due for what will probably be an extensive renovation which will mean much higher prices. We were told they will be closed down by August.

Perfect location and amazing price

Posted Mar 18, 2015
Pros: They have an amazing kitchen yo can use! Professional range, huge fridge, equipment, BAM!
Cons: Nice to have a few larger rooms, but then it wouldn't be a hostel...
Location: Everything
Walking distance to everything downtown and at the harbor. Easiest check in and out ever. You should ask for towels when you check in, as they are not in your room. Very adequate bathroom facilities, never a wait at all, usually clean, surprising for St. Patrick's Day Weekend!

I FELT HOMELESS

Posted Mar 18, 2015
Pros: Nothing, I hated it!
Cons: Demolish the hotel and build a parking lot.
Location: Far from everything
First off when I booked it said 500 West "Hotel" That needs to be changed to "HOSTEL" because I did not know until I arrived that is was. The rooms were the size of two twins side by side. The bed was a twin on a wooden box, really uncomfortable to sleep on, there was no A/C and it is HOT in San Diego! when I got into my room there was a plastic bucket holding up the window. In a Hostel everyone shares a community bathroom which was gross, the bathrooms are treated and maintained like a public bathroom at a rest stop or gas station, they stink and are not clean! You can hear the person next to you texting on their phone. This place was dirty, filthy, poor customer service, hot and un-sanitary! I WILL NEVER COME BACK! CHANGE THE NAME FROM HOTEL TO HOSTEL. I LITERALLY FELT HOMELESS. IT FEELS LIKE A HOMELESS SHELTER EXCEPT YOU HAVE TO PAY TO BE THERE! NEVER AGAIN!

This is not a hotel, its a hostel.

Posted Mar 17, 2015
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Tear it down and rebuild.
Horrible, checked in, saw the condition of the room and the "shared" bathroom was filthy. Immediately checked out and the hotel management refused to refund any portion of my stay (5 nights). I have disputed the charges with my credit card company.

Nightmare staying in this hostel.

Dirty place, no private shower neither toilets. Little air provided by a ceiling fan. This has been my worst experience during more than 30 years of traveling around the world. I am surprised is part of Expedia network. Now i doubt Expedia itself to book another trip.

This place was horrible! It was a hostel not a hotel. The pictures on the website looked nothing like the actual place. It was dirty, tiny and overall a disgusting place.
