"Beautiful House."
This house is absolutely beautiful. We stayed in the Garden Room, and it was beautiful. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was beautiful. They give you no special treatment like some nice B&Bs, so I give it 4 stars for beauty and cleanliness. Pros: -BEAUTIFUL -Comfortable bed -Clean -Free parking in the parking garage across the street -Key card to get in at any time -Ask for the history of the house -Close to Balboa Park Cons: -Shower took a few minutes to warm up (but it did get hot). -Walls a little thin. I could hear conversations in the foyer (although I couldn't understand them clearly) -The piano was out-of-tune. It's just a decoration I guess. (++It's signed by a Steinway) -No free parking for loading/unloading. -Breakfast was disappointing---cheap continental breakfast. Nothing special. -No chocolates, no cheese hour, no fancy shampoo (big bottles of shampoo/conditioner)

"Classy Destination in Downtown San Diego"
Approaching from the street, the hotel is recognizable as a 1970’s era luxury design. But upon entering, I was taken by surprise. The lobby design and décor is obviously inspired by Versailles and it has been lovingly maintained. Look around the hotel. At the lobby level is a small bar (jazz singer Jonathan Karrant on Saturday nights – wow, I thought I was in New York!), beautiful dining room and an outdoor pool on the 3rd floor with views into the city. They set the lobby up for afternoon tea on the weekends. We had a day planned and had to miss it. I’m not into tea, but I kept looking back over my shoulder wishing we could stay. My suggestion, bring some nice clothes and stay in for the tea. They draw a classy bunch. Our room was wonderful. Décor is older hotel luxury style. But when that style is so well maintained it’s just great. With all the hip and hard edge designs in vogue now, I had forgotten how nice the older luxury style can be. And the Westgate is in its prime. It’s a short 10 minute walk from the Amtrak station. Stretch your legs and roll on over. I can’t wait to go back!!

"Amazing One Night Stay!"
I was amazed at how friendly and professional the staff was. The Signature Suite was dreamy. The beds were so comfortable and everything was very clean. It was a very luxurious experience. I will absolutely be staying there again the next time I'm in San Diego.

"Better for business than vacation, but still good"
I booked this hotel via Expedia for a family vacation. It's a nice hotel - very beautiful lobby, bars, etc. However, I think it's better suited for business than vacation. For one thing, it's extremely expensive. The breakfast buffet is $27/person. Family of 4 with tip was $120. Also, it seems San Diego is just expensive in general. Most meals for 4 at restaurants in the area (like the Gaslamp District) ran between $160 and $300. You can do cheap, but there's not much around for that within walking distance. With that said, it's a great location. Close to the USS Midway and other local attractions. Otherwise, you'll want to rent a car. Don't forget to include $30/night for parking. Like I said, nice place, but be prepared to lay out some cash.

We stayed over Fathers Day weekend with our two dogs and couldn't be more pleased with the location, facilities and staff. There is also one of San Diego's best restaurants J6 on site.

"Outstanding suite worth every penny!"
1.) phenomenal location in downtown SD. Adjacent to everything! Tons of bars, restaurants, etc within close proximity from the moment you step outside. However, I think if we were on a lower floor, we might have been disturbed by the sounds of the San Diego nightlife. We were high enough that we didn't. 2.) Stayed in the imperial jacuzzi suite and were totally wowed by it. Usually hotel photos play up the space and appearance of how a room looks. But this time the opposite was true. We were very pleased with how gorgeous penthouse-G was decorated and the amount of space we had. 3.) staff was really nice and even let us check in super early--at 9am!!! 4.) such an adorable and chic/trendy boutique hotel without the gross "side effects" you usually get with boutique hotels (ie hot water that chooses when it wants to work, cockroaches, etc) 5.) the only downsides were the lack of parking (beware the $40 valet charge!) but that was my bad for not foreseeing that coming. I mean, it's downtown sd...of course there's no parking structures or garages for each and every business. The only self Parking was like 4 blocks away for $15. At least the $40 valet had unltd in and out privileges. Then only other slight downside was the dust in our suite. Overall it was very clean but the sheer amount of decor and furnishing would make it impossible to maintain perfectly dustless. With 2 story vaulted ceilings, pretty much everything over the height of 6 ft was covered in dust.

Pocket Guide: Downtown - San Diego Intl Airport, San Diego Romantic Hotels

San Diego’s waterfront airport lies northwest of downtown, which is home to the San Diego Convention Center, PetCo Park stadium, and the Gaslamp Quarter’s. That historic neighborhood’s restaurants and bars are the hub of the city’s nightlife. Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo form a green swath in this urban jungle. Offshore, Coronado Island offers postcard views of the city skyline.
