I'm from Rio and travelled with my husband, from USA who did not care about staying by the beach. This hotel is great! Close to subway and Lapa, it is an excellent alternative to escape de overpriced hotel in Copacabana or Ipanema. Just one note, since it is downtown, there's nothing open walking distance on weekends and holiday.

The hotel is in a great location, close to metro and things to do.
Clean rooms, good choice of breakfast, great view from the rooftop -Christ the Redeemer!!
The staff were so helpful with suggestions of things to do, translations for the odd word not in my pocket dictionary and general friendliness.
Free wifi is always a plus too.

Although the hotel was under construction, the room cleanliness and state was EXCELLENT. The room was brand new to be used, with excellent bed, closets and bathroom. Also, the hotel location is perfect to do tourism travel on Rio, next to Lapa neighborhood and the Sambodromo.

"Extremely clean and very nice rooms.. parking lot leaves much to be desired..."
Very nice place to stay.... great location, the room has all the amenities you could expect to have from home. The elevator talks to you. It is convenient to everything. Convenience store across the street in case you forgot anything. would stay again if we had a coupon, but a great hotel for a getaway. .
The staff were all great and very helpful... from the front desk, the kitchen, and the maid, right down to the security guy walking the parking lot.
Prepare to walk, the parking lot is not convenient. The entrance is the main door and it is the furthest point from the parking lot... what genius thought that up?!?!?! You can not get in with your room key at the side entrance unless you have someone waiting for you. If you can avoid it, come in the off season when the parking lot is not so full.
Don't purchase the breakfast package, unless you really don't want to go out....it was good, just not worth the amount forked out in the package.
Didn't get to use the pool, but it was nice and clean, if I had time, I would have definitely taken a swim.

Downtown - Santos Dumont Airport, Rio de Janeiro Hotel Guide
Glass-and-steel towers soar above domed colonial churches. Trade thrives here, especially along Avenida Rio Branco, a commercial street that resembles the Champs-Elysées. Rio’s French influence is also seen at Praça Floriano’s opera house and sidewalk cafés. The Sambódromo, at downtown’s edge, comes to life during Carnaval. Nearby, travelers fly to domestic cities from Santos Dumont Airport.
