“Don't book directly”

I previously lived in this region of the world for 20 years so I know my way around Dubai. When I go looking for a Hotel I am not after the glitz that first timers might be. The Golden Sands are no-nonsense. So I have stayed at the Golden Sands a number of times. The staff is helpful, rooms and building clean and overall a good value. The location is good with shopping and entertainment near by, within walking distance. Avoid using the Hotel taxi service as they are expensive and the area is teaming with metered taxi. Best advise is to book through the likes of Expedia and not directly with the Hotel.

“I kicked myself when I arrived.... Two Stars”

My second time in Dubai You can get a lot better hotels for the same price. Its way North of Dubai, the map is not accurate. The hotel/appt is very old. Like from 1980's. It was more like Sri Lanka or a nice indian hotel. Staff were nice and helpful. You can get a 1 year old hotel for an extra ten bucks. I would do it. Its like 2 stars.

“Great value for the money u pay.... You get all you need for a pleasant stay in Dubai without luxury”

Quite comfortable and more importantly you get what you pay for. All you need for a pleasant stay in Dubai without the unneeded luxury. Calm environment, clean place and good service. Been traveling in and out of Dubai for more than 17 years and used several luxury hotels that I pay a big bucks for facilities and luxury that I never used. Golden sands, gives u all u need and the price is amazing.

“Cash went missing from room”

Everything was decent until cash went missing from the safe box in my room. Also, some of the doormen have a scheme going where they try and get you into more expensive cabs that start at a higher initial fee and have a steeper fee per mile. Always ask to see the meter and get out if you are not satisfied. It was not a pleasant feeling to know that the hotel staff were trying to scam us. The missing cash from the safe box was not acceptable. The management made a small effort to look into the problem, but no real resolution was reached. We stayed at both the Golden Sands 3 and 10. They are both in an awkward pseudo commercial area of Bur Dubai. The surrounding neighborhood is...dead. Used the pool at GS3 but not at 10. Was acceptable, but no towels were supplied. Sauna was small and had a broken seat. The kithens were a nice touch, but the washing machine in GS3 was broken and the AC was either on or off with no thermostat function. Would not recommend eating at the hotel restaurant unless you are really hungry. Actually, don't eat at the restaurant at all. There is so much good, cheap food to be had a short walk away. Many other things are advertised that do not exist, like wifi in all rooms and free shuttle to airport. Dubai still seems a little backwards in terms of false information in advertising. Overall, I would probably stay somewhere else.

Area recommendations

Al Ras, Deira or Naif. Much more cultural, probably cheaper and much more fun.

" Had a marvelous stay in Dubai at the Golden Sands Hotel. Wonderful interiors, very good service and some excellent dining too, Very reasonably priced too for apt type hotel. My only qualm was my trip was too short."

“Come over!”

The stuff have been really nice and very professional, from the begining to the end of my staying. I can only recommend this hotel to all visitors no matter how long they stay... maybe a bit too far from the nearest metro station (cca 15 minutes walking) if you want to save 7-8 durhams for taxy to get there :), but In general you get what you pay for... and and a bit more... :)

Area recommendations

absolutely everything, but above all: Khalifa (life time experience) and Jumeriah (sorry for possible wrong spelling!) Soukh, the one that is near the Burj Al Arab. Also Dubai Mall and Marina City (sweet resaurants, nice walkway...), Barasti club (great view and atmopsphere)
