“Mike”

Very nice hotel just outside Dublin. The view I had from my room was spectacular, overlooking one of the greens from the golf course. The service staff was outstanding, helping me when I had any problems.

Area recommendations
Go to the city center of Dublin.

“Absolutely a superior experience.”

Hotel is conveniently located to the Dublin area. It's tucked away far enough to get you out of the hustle and bustle of the city, but you are only minutes from all of the major sites you would want to see while in the area. The staff is absolutely wonderful. They are terrific at providing you with detailed printed directions wherever you want to go. The rooms are clean and fresh and very spacious. There however is no air conditioning which we didn't really need anyway. The windows do open, and there is usually a good breeze. The bathroom is very spacious and luxurious. We would definitely go back.

Area recommendations
Be sure to tour Guiness and the Jameson plants. Take in the Dublin zoo. Very reasonably priced and a great zoo. You're also not far away from the Outlet Village. Then spend some time along the quays in Dublin. Terrific shops and pubs. The oldest pub in Ireland is just around the corner from the quays. If you feel adventurous and want to drive a few hours, you can visit Blarney Castle and while on your way to Blarney stop by another Jameson experience and the quaint town of Cork. All can be done in a day trip.
When to go
September seemed to be a great time to go. Children were back in school and most attractions were empty enough that we could walk right through. Also the weather is cooler, and you don't need that air conditioning in your room. You can enjoy the fresh Irish air through the open windows of your room.

“Castleknock Golf Resort”

Very nice hotel. Room as clean comfortable and good size. Restaurant was OK, (breakfast anyway) though did not eat there for other meals. If you have a car, or you can take a cab as it's not far at all, is Wright's Angler's Rest. Great pub, food, people, atmosphere, great "session" on Saturday might around 9pm. And parking is available, free!!

“Ireland, 2010”

Great country to see and enjoy. The people are wonderful.

Getting around
Drive carefully, our rental car had kissed a stonewall. It was that way when we got it. After driving for 5 minutes you will see why. Pay attention to signs, they are excellent and you will get the hang of them. The highways are great. Follow Castleknock's directions, we drove right to the hotel from the airport, not one wrong turn.
What to pack
The weather is cool, although we are from South Florida. We went beginning of August. When I say cool I mean from 58 to maybe 70 farenheit. Carry a sweater and umbrella, rain was really more of a mist to us, we are used to tropical downpours. Air is crisp and clean.
Other
There is alot to Ireland. Driving was the best way. We continued on to Blarney, Bunratty and even went out to Doolin. We took the Doolin ferry to the Aran Islands and sailed right under the Cliffs of Mohr, dont miss them. The tourist center for the Cliffs left you looking down, but I think looking up was more thrilling. Inis Oirr, Aran Islands is very unique, take a carriage ride to see the island.

“A beautiful first stop in our tour of Ireland”

My family loved Castleknock and appreciated how friendly and accommodating the staff were. It really was a lovely place. Our only one complaint, and it's a minor one, is that our family runs each morning and we had difficulty the first morning finding the start of the running trail.

“Country feel just minutes from Dublin's city center”

This location is great if you want to leave the city behind after a day of touring for a quieter more relaxed atmosphere - the bus system runs pretty late so if you want to stay in town you have that option too. Bus stop is conveniently located to the hotel with affordable rates - you must have exact fare! Castleknock has a great spa with massage services available in addition to the very nice golf course on the property. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was spacious and clean. Highly recommend the day tour by rail/bus to the Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castle, The Burn etc. It lasted 15 hours, was very affordable and you can see the beautiful countryside and many key sites within a relatively short period of time without the expense and hastle of renting a car and getting lost or having an accident. Bar staff could have been a bit more friendly - the front desk staff was terrific.

Area recommendations
I highly recommend the Castleknock Hotel because of the clean, comfortable and spacious rooms in addition to the amenities offered by the hotel, such as an on-site spa offering massage treatments. It's close enough to Dublin for convenience yet provides more of a country feel so you get the best of what both has to offer.
Getting there
I recommend taxi to and from the hotel from the airport. It's a tricky place to find, street signs are not always in place and are not as common as in the US. Their drivers can also be pretty aggressive. Ask your taxi driver for recommendations on where to go/what to see and tips - most are very willing and knowledgeable about the city!
Getting around
Getting from the hotel into City Center of Dublin is a piece of cake using the city bus transportation available just a few blocks from the hotel down a very picturesque walkway across from the hotel. One in Dublin I recommend a stop at the Tourist/Visitor Center on Dame Street - this is the same street that City Hall and the Dublin Castle are located (just at the other end). You can purchase a 1 or 2-day hop on hop off bus pass so you can see the city without trying to figure out the public transportation system - it's very tourist friendly.
What to pack
If possible, have your bank issue Euros prior to leaving the states. Ask for smaller bills (our bank gave us all 50 and 100 Euro bills); they will likely not have euro coins available. When you get to the Dublin Airport you can get coin which you will need for the city bus transportation system as you must have exact change for the fare each way. If you don't drink coffee/tea, but like a hot beverage you may want to take some hot chocolate or other hot drink you can make with water. In June it got down to the 40's at night so having a hot drink is nice. Make sure you have an electric plug converter as their electrical outlets have a different type of plug than we have in the US. I also recommend a money belt that you can wear under your clothing for security - you can find these items in the luggage area of most department stores.
Must see
If you purchase the hop-on-hop-off bus pass you will want to see the Kilmainham Gaol prison - very interesting and provides some significant historical information well worth the time and small price of admission. Also recommend the National Cathedral and Collegiate Church of St. Patrick - beautiful architecture and full of history - a small admission fee is charged but well worth it. Also highly recommend the day rail/bus tours offered that covers the Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castle, The Burren and Galaway Bay - this adds a nice country & key sites tour to the city portion of your time in Ireland. Wish we would have had time to see the Ring of Kerry - also a 1 day tour. Tickets can be purchased through the tourist/visitor center or on-line (see their brochure at the hotel or the visitor center).
Shopping
I thought Trinity Crafts on Nassau Street had terrific prices on T-shirts and Sweatshirts etc. There are many Carrolls gift shops through the city but their prices were a bit highter, but a bit larger selection. I was very surprised at the selection and very good prices offered at the duty free shopping area of the airport. Don't worry if you don't have all the gifts/souvenirs you wanted because the airport shopping area is huge and has a great selection with excellent prices!
Family-friendly activities
Hop on Hop Off bus around the city, many museums available on this tour. There is also a zoo, but a taxi driver told us there were better things to see if you are short on time, so this would be a lower priority. Love the day rail/bus tours available to many destinations. You can also purchase your own rail tickets at Heuston station and plan your own day trips to Cork etc. The rail is a great way to see the country side.

“Nice location Very Family Friendly”

WE enjoyed our stay here the rooms were excellant and the service was great. had live music on the weekends in the lounge and was near enough to Dublin, while still having a feeling of being in the country

Other
Car Rentals - Are very expensive in Ireland and you must take the insurance. Also the roads are very poor it takes a lot longer to get to places than you would think by looking at a map

“Beautiful Gem on the Outskirts of Town”

Ireland was my first international trip. It was a wonderful experience for my first trip over the ocean. The hotel was perfect. The ambience was amazing. Very trendy . Very clean. State of the art bathroom fixtures. I'm a germ-a-phobe so the a clean bathroom has me sold! Hotel staff was very nice and very accommodating. Taxi drivers complained that the hotel was in the middle of nowhere. In actuality it's less than a 10 minute taxi ride to City Centre and about 20 minutes on the bus. I wasn't super impressed with the food, but I'm really picky about my food. I'd say over all I was very impressed. I'd make that my hotel of choice any day. The ambience was amazing. Very trendy . Area recommendations
The neighborhood around Castleknock is quiet and quaint. Ideal area for a leisurely stroll. City Centre is less than 20 minutes from the hotel and there's tons of stuff to do there. Plenty of sights to see and food to eat (if you like Irish food)
When to go
We went in March and Ireland celebrates St. Patrick's Day for the entire month. Pack warm though, it's really cold in March.
Getting around
BUS!!! We used the bus to go everywhere. It was clean, fast, and inexpensive
Must see
Blarney Castle and Cork! Had a blast!
