“Comfy Hotel Not Far From Dublin”
We stayed here for 6 days and it was great. The hotel upgraded our room to a suit and it was amazing. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom had a great shower and tub which made relaxing easy. The hotel had a bar/restaurant that served great food for good prices. A 2 minute walk away there was another pub/dinner and an Asian food place. Both very good and close. There is a bus route about a 1/4 mile down the road that picks people up to go right into Dublin city. That made travel easy. Also the Hop-On-Hop-Off red busses picked up people from the hotel about 10:30am most days. Good easy tour at a good rate. This hotel was very nice. Outside of the city so it wasn't too crazy but just a short ride away.
“Convenient Location”
The hotel is located conveniently close to shopping, and offers taxi and bus service for transport. I rented a car, so I did not take advantage of these services. The room was pretty basic, smaller than I had imagined, but was kept clean and has free internet, which is about all I need. Be aware that breakfast may not be included in the package, and there's a daily parking fee.
“Outside of Dublin”
We were satisfied with the deal and the hotel but there was nothing exceptional about it. It was a bit out of the way so we found ourselves staying out all day without even trying to make it back for and forth for a break. We also tried the breakfast buffet and that was standard quality. The location near the Liffey Mall and Cinema did give us an opportunity to catch a movie while on vacation which was fun.
“Liffey Valley Clarion”
I would like to say our stay was great, but it was just "ok" The first room we were given reeked from past use as a smoking room. Our 2nd room was better but had other issues. The bath tub drain didn't work and we found ourselves ankle deep in water after a short shower. The breakfast buffet was plentiful, but again, just ok. The taxi's, while readily available, were expensive if you wanted to go to Dublin, averaging about $22 Euros or about $25 U.S. This was due to the somewhat far distance from downtown Dublin. The staff was very attentive when we needed them and there was one manager in particular who went out of his way on a couple of occasions to offer help, but unfortunately I don't know his name. Based on his accent, he may have been Nigerian, but I'm not certain. They have a pool which I heard was nice, and there are 2 bars which were actually pretty nice as well. One thing I didn't like was that they charge for parking. I think this may be the only hotel/motel that I've ever had to pay for parking. It's only 4 Euro per day, but it should be free for guests.
“Left Much to be Desired”
While there was nothing wrong with the hotel itself and its facilities, the front desk and cleaning service could not seem to get its act together. We had to make repeated requests from the front desk to get extra sheets or have a rollaway delivered. They never came and removed the rollaway bed, although we only needed it for our first night. It was constantly in the way, but we simply gave up trying to have to taken away. The hotel is on the outskirts of Dublin and the bus stop was over a mile away. Normally, not a big deal unless it is raining (this is Ireland right?) or they are having a heat wave, which they were during our first week. In addition, no matter how hot or cool it was outside, our rooms, on the southside of the building, NEVER cooled off. There was no AC (not unusual for a European hotel) but you could only open the window a little bit and it never allowed enough air circulation to cool the room. The hotel is located in an auto mall (not the nicest locale), but also close to a huge shopping mall, which offered access to food, groceries and movies. Pool access (limited especially for kids) and rules (never made clear or posted) were a bit strange. I wold have been more than happy to comply had I known the rules. Also weekends are a free-for-all. Loud, wild parties go on in the rooms, heated arguements and fights in the hallways at all hours of the night. After hours hotel security seems non-existent. Overall, find a better hotel closer to city center
“Ireland was amazing”
I went to Dublin with my Mom and Grandma for a week, just to see the sights and explore the culture. Not only were we surprised by the polite nature of everyone we came across, but the cleanliness of the entire country, no matter where we were, was amazing. The architecture and the landscapes around Ireland are the most amazing things you could ever see in your life. And the food was phenominal. The choice was very broad; from anything you are used to in your hometown (McDonalds for example) to exquisite Irish foods. Everything about the country was enticing to me and I will definitely go back when I get the chance.
“Would Stay Here Again”
Overall the hotel was clean and the rooms were comfortable. The Clarion staff was friendly and accomodating. We were wishing there were more restaurant choices closer to the hotel. The two restaurants within the hotel were just "ok" and a little expensive. They do a nice continental breakfast (not included in our room price), but go early... they ran out of food the morning we ate there. The gym and pool located within the hotel are open to the public... we didn't use the facilities for that reason. There is a shopping center within walking distance, but check before you go, as the stores are not open the same hours every day! It is necessary to ride the bus or take a taxi (if you're not renting a car) to/from downtown center. The bus stop(s) are within walking distance, but several blocks away. We felt safe in the neighborhood, even after dark. We would recommend this hotel to others traveling to Dublin.
“Not impressed”
The hotel itself was very clean and well maintained. The service was terrible. The hotel staff was rude and very unwilling to help us. We were often misinformed by the staff regarding room charges and businesses in the hotel's vicinity. The rooms did not have US electrical outlets and the hotel did not have adapters available. We had to find an electronics store in the city to get an adapter. There was no coffee maker in the room -- only instant coffee and tea. The hotel location is pretty far away from the city centre -- a 45 minute bus ride. We did not have a rental car, so we bought the bus pass, but we still had to walk about 15 minutes to get to the nearest bus stop which is right next to the shopping centre. The bus was very helpful because it goes everywhere throughout the city. It was a nice walk toward the shopping centre, but some of the locals mentioned that in the other direction of the bus route, there are some areas that are not safe for walking (especially at night). We did go to one of the restaurants at the hotel once, but we were not impressed with the selection or quality of our meals. We had a lot of fun on this trip, but definitely would not stay at this hotel again!
“Great Stay”
The room was very comfortable (Egyptian linen anyone?) and tidy. A high speed LAN connection with cable was included, Wi-fi was available for a charge though. The dressing area was well equipped with an iron, board and full-size mirror. The bathroom had a 120V jack with US outlet as well as the standard European connections, and the bathtub was nice and big with a high pressure shower head. I rented a car and found I could get to the Dublin city center in 15 minutes or less (unless there's a soccer game in town!). The Liffey Valley Mall was a stone's throw away, a nice convenience. I ate breakfast at the hotel, very satisfying fare. Didn't get a chance to get a massage or check out the gym though.
“CLARION....WON'T RETURN....BUT WOULD EAT THERE!”
The rooms were not air conditioned, the window opened about 2 inches....very muggy....stuffy....they did provide ocillating fan, at times very uncomfortable.... KUDOS RESTAURANT worth the trip for excellent food.
