Great Dublin Hotel

Posted Dec 19, 2014
Pros: The staff were very accommodating and friendly.
Location: Approximately 15 minutes from Dublin City Centre. Easy access from the Motorway.
Pleasant overnight stay. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the lady at reception. She was extremely gracious and accommodating. The meal in the Knight's bar was average; the waitress however, was again very pleasant and helpful. The same comments can also be said about our checkout. A very helpful receptionist. The rooms were clean, however, I was a little disappointed that our room did not have a full bath. Overall, a value for money experience.

Modern day hotel inside of a castle

Posted Dec 19, 2014
Beautiful castle hotel with a very commercial feel. If you want a quiet romantic castle stay I wouldn't recommend it. It is only a short taxi ride into the city. About 12-14 euro. Mostly a place where people stay on business trips.

Too far from the city center - had to take a 10 euro taxi ride everytime I wanted to get to a restaurant, pub, shopping, etc.

Great hotel, espically for the value

Clontarf Castle is located in Clontarf, which is a short taxi or bus drive (about 15 minutes) from Dublins City Centre. I initially choose this hotel because it was a great price compared to hotels in the city centre. I'm so glad I did, because my husband and I did not enjoy Dublin, it is a dirty, dingey city. If you still want to check out Dublin for yourself, you can see everything in Dublin in one day, no need to be there longer, head to the countryside as soon as possible and stay there. Clontarf Castle was perfect for us because we could escape the city, it is located in a neighborhood, and a 10 minute walk from a few local restraunts and 2 or 3 shops. The hotel staff is extremely kind and helpful. The hotel bar is awesome! The food is good (we ate there 3 times) the ambience is great, and it is one happening bar! Not only will you see hotel guest, but a ton of locals come there to eat and drink. If you stay I would not pick the B&B option, the breakfast is not great. The rooms were cozy, the mattress was comfortable and the pillows were actually the best ones we had the whole trip (pillows did not see to be a high priority anywhere we stayed in Ireland). They also had the most TV station options of anywhere we stayed. We do not plan in returning to Dublin again, there are soooooo many better places to be and see in Ireland; however, if I have had to, I would definitely stay at Clontarf Castle again!

Lovely hotel, character and friendly

Posted Nov 4, 2014
Pros: See above
Stayed for one night with other family members, 7 in total with three rooms. Accommodation was good, clean and tidy, hotel is lovely with. A real castle feel about it while also providing up to date rooms and facilities. A meal in the bar at lunchtime provided enough sustenance To feed us all and have left overs, lots of chips in small buckets. We then had a short walk to the bus stop, number 130 into town. Staff at the hotel advised the buses only take exact change, no notes so were helpful enough to change €20 into coins. This must happen a lot but was much appreciated. On our return from town we had dinner in the Michelin award winning restaurant. Lovely food, well presented and enjoyed by all. Breakfast was buffet style, busy but excellent choice of cooked, continental and cereals. A lovely venue, I'd return next visit for sure.

Clontarf Castle Birthday Weekend

Posted Nov 3, 2014
I took my girlfriend to Clontarf Catle Hotel for her 25th. We arrived at 9am several hours before check-in and the staff couldn't have done more for us, they offered us an empty room to check in early however we said we were going to explore dublin, the staff then took our bags to keep for us and gave us a map and pointed out some fantastic local attractions, pubs and eateries. The room was huge, clean and perfect. There was a mini bar, excellent tea and coffee facilities and the bedding was clean and tidy. The staff helped with booking taxis and bus times as well as booking a table at the restaurant. Room service for breakfast and dinner were fast and well presented. I couldn't have asked for more from our stay, everything was perfect and I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Peaceful yet vexing

Posted Nov 1, 2014
My husband and I stayed at Clontarf Castle Hotel in late October 2014 on our first night in Ireland. To begin with, Clontarf Castle Hotel is set in a peaceful, quiet community within walking distance of Dublin's Fairview Park. However, the hotel is not within walking distance of much else. Due to the setup of the city's roads, a simple trip to the city centre requires a lengthy jaunt around the entire above mentioned park -- taking at least a half hour and passing very little of traditional interest, even for dedicated walkers. Staying at Clontarf on holiday would be one thing, but choosing it as a launching point for a tour of Dublin is quite another. Staff at the front desk were helpful and polite but seemed perpetually ready to move on, even when there were no other guests waiting in line. However, the concierge was excellent. When we discovered that our sink was clogged, due to what turned out to be a massive clog in the drain -- which housekeeping and the concierge did their best to dislodge -- the concierge insisted upon moving us to the resplendent King Suite, located in the original castle, and providing continental breakfast free of charge. Our original room had also been well- kept and quite comfortable. The hotel in general seemed a little ritzy, and if you are looking for a more welcoming atmosphere, you would do better to stay elsewhere.

Comfortable hotel easy access to city centre

Fantastic hotel with great staff who made us feel very welcome. Rooms were perfectly clean. The architecture of the hotel has been cleverly designed to enhance the heritage of the original castle. Looking forward to our next trip!
