Just what we neededPosted Aug 26, 2014
Pros: Grounds, size of room and facilities in the room.
Cons: Reception staff and restaurant availability for guests.
Location: Close to Stena Line Ferry terminal - 5 minutes drive.
Room was ready when we arrived which was an hour before normal check-in. Had to change rooms as the suite given was quite small and not ideal for 2 adults and a child so were moved at no extra costs to a very large room which had a separate sitting area. Good location, plenty of parking and the grounds were fabulous but there were a lot of different events and parties going on so very busy. Our only criticism was that the Italian restaurant was full on the night be stayed. This was relayed to us quite abruptly by the reception when we checked in and upon visiting directly with the restaurant, the staff there managed to squeeze us in at 6.30pm. Now I use the word 'squeeze' loosely as we arrived to an empty restaurant and at 8pm when we left there was still only about 6 tables being used out of the 30 available. It was as if they did not want the business. Having said that the service and food was excellent although quite pricey but then everything in the hotel other than the rooms was expensive. If you get the option, book a room at the end of a corridor otherwise you end up with the usual 'loud running child' sound at 7am !!!!!

Fair enoughPosted Aug 24, 2014
Cons: The hotel lacks atmosphere, perhaps because it's hard to work out what constitutes the focal point for guests.
Location: Access is very good and Dublin City centre is a short drive away. Blackrock, Dalkey and Killiney are close by and worth visiting.
Two receptionists when we booked in, one was grumpy, the other very pleasant. The cleanliness and quality of the rooms was very good. We though we would try out the Italian Restaurant but its location is not very inviting and it lacks atmosphere. We went to the orangery instead where we had food which couldn't be faulted and a view over the gardens at the rear of the hotel. Overall, the hotel was adequate, but lacked vibrancy.

Nice hotelPosted Aug 20, 2014
Overall wouldn't consider it 5* myself and I'm glad we got it for the cheap price we did. Room was clean. Staff were efficient but could be friendlier. And no pool! Lovely looking hotel though and room was cleaned spotlessly. Rubbish TV choice.

Nice hotelPosted Jul 17, 2014
Pros: comfortable room
Cons: front desk attitude
Location: It was in a beautiful setting but there was nothing nearby of interest.
The hotel was very nice but the desk clerk said I was not getting a free breakfast because I had booked the room through a 3rd party web site. He said that more than once seemingly just to taunt me.

Resort-like feel. Beautiful grounds.Posted Jul 14, 2014
Pros: Resort-like feel.
Cons: It needs a pool/hot tub. The very far rear lawn could use a swing/slide for kids, benches for reading away from bar area, a mini golf putt.
Location: Marlay Park for concert was a 20€ taxi ride each way. City bus and Air Coach stop was 2 minutes walk away. City bus was 20 min ride to Trinity College
Very nice hotel if you want to relax or hold an event there, such as a wedding. Parking was free. The breakfast buffet was excellent. At the end of our 2 week drive around Ireland, we decided to stay there again for a couple of nights since we had been in and out of hotels for 2 weeks and we wanted to relax and unwind away from touristy areas before heading home. It really was a lovely, relaxing stay. The staff was super nice and helpful. Would definitely stay there again.

StaffPosted Jun 28, 2014
The staff in the hotel front lobby an room service were not very nice, hardly even crack a smile when you arrive to check in. Nobody yo help with luggage, not enough towels in bathroom, had to call everyday for more. Just not very good service.

very bad standardPosted Jun 18, 2014
Pros: The building itself is beautiful and In a lovely setting
Cons: to receive the standard of room what I paid for and the extras that I had paid for. very poor
I had booked this break as a surprise for am partner as I was going propose to them. so I had booked a suit and had informed the hotel of this. we didn't even get the standard that id booked and I didn't want to complain at the time as my partner was with me and I didn't want to soil their break. very disappointing. I was prepared to book the hotel as the venue as my partner always loved the setting of the hotel. not any more
