Dining

Thornton's - This 80-seat gourmet restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star in 2006. It features a floor-to-ceiling, glass-paneled wine rack, a collection of contemporary artwork, and sage-green, modern chairs. Signature dishes include suckling pig and sautéed foie gras.

Citron - This buzzing venue serves innovative and modern cuisine in chic surroundings.

Inn on the Green - Open for lunchtime and evening snacks, this is the hotel's trendy bar, serving cocktails and traditional Irish whiskeys. Red-leather seating lines the walls, and booths provide intimacy. Weekend evenings are particularly busy in this popular bar, where the music is mellow.

“Awesome staff and great location”

The staff went out of their way on everything to make us feel at home. We arrived at 8:00 a.m. and they had our rooms ready within an hour! Concierge service outstanding and would def stay there again next time we're in Dublin.

“Wonderful hotel in great location”

My husband and I felt right at home at the Fitzwilliam. Service was excellent, the rooms were great with every amenity. We loved the location right across from Trinity College and just a few steps away from great shopping on Grafton Street. Our concierge was able to book several great tours for us and recommended some great places to eat. We loved Bewleys Cafe for lunch, great food and reasonably priced. The Guinness tour and Jamison distillery tour are a must, as are Temple Bar and O 'Foleys for drinks and Irish music. The people here are so friendly and warm, we will definitely return to Ireland.

Area recommendations
Recommend the area around Trinity College and Grafton Street. The area is full of great shopping, restaurants and bars. Lots of people out and it is very safe for visitors.
Must see
A great must see when visiting Ireland is the tour to Blarney castle and the seaside town of Cobh (Cove). My husband and I visited both on a great tour arranged by the concierge at the Fitzwilliam. We especially enjoyed the Heritage Center in Cobh. The museum chronicles the history of Irish immigration to America during the "Great Potato Famine", the displays and photographs are outstanding. The Blarney castle is an interesting stop with beautiful grounds and a necessary visit to the top to kiss the blarney stone. There is a great Irish woolen shop on the tour, where you can buy gorgeous Irish sweaters, scarves and hand made lace. Also a great restaurant there as well for lunch.

“Great Dublin location and great Dublin hotel”

The Fitzwilliam offers the best location in downtown Dublin, with very attentive personal service, and modern comfortable rooms. This was my second stay at the Fitzwilliam and it would be my clear choice again when I return to Dublin.

Area recommendations
The shops along Grafton Street, the nearby Temple Bar area for terrific pubs, O'Donoghue's a few short blocks away as the quintessential Irish pub, and St Stephen's Green for a breath of fresh air just across the street make a visit to Dublin complete for me.
Nightlife
O'Donoghue's pub is just a few blocks away and is the quintessential Irish pub.

“Fine Hotel - Don't Miss the Restaurant”

Thornton"s is the best restaurant in Ireland, and is a must-do. The hotel itself is quite good and well-located: the service is superb, but the room (at least my room) was small and poorly lit., The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was fine.

Area recommendations
Central Dublin is compact and easy to get around in. I liked staying up at St. Stephen' s Green, which is convenient to many sites, but almost any location in the center (e.g., Trinity College area) would be fine.

“BlueThunder”

Great hotel, great staff....accomodated early check in and gave us a room upgrade. Only negative comment was washer machine type noise during the night. Bath tub and shower water pressure were amazing, as were toiletries. Breakfast was overpriced. Great location...in the heart of Dublin and within walking distance of everything.

Bar none, one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. Opulant surroundings and service second to none.

Getting there
Dublin is very challenging to drive in, the streets are not marked well at at. Get a taxi.

“City Centre Hotel”

The hotel is centrally located and professionally staffed. While the design is contemporary the basic category room is overly furnished making it feel too small for two people sharing.

Area recommendations
For leisure travelers, this hotel is wonderfully located.

“Very Comfortable- Great Location”

the Fitzwilliam had wonderful service, a great location and was very comfortable. Our only issue was getting in and out of the shower- the bathtub was very high and it was difficult to exit. Other than that minor issue it was a wonderful stay but if you have mobility issues alert the staff.

Area recommendations
Go through St. Stephen's Green it is lovely and to the Brewery, the Book of Kells and St. Patricks Cathedral
Getting around
It is easy to walk around in Dublin but be aware that you will have to before you go and pack good shoes because it will rain and get windy on the cobblestones.
What to pack
Pack layers as the weather is changeable and a good rain coat
