“Fantastic city-break”
For a family city break, this was a good choice of hotel: it was in a quiet location, the rooms were large and had a balcony and there was free wired Internet access in the bedrooms. The staff were helpful and could all speak adequate English. Though the hotel is a 10-15 minutes bus ride from the old city, there was a convenient bus-stop about 50m up the road and buses run every 15mn.Use bus n06 or 9 to the old city. The pebbled beach at Lapad was a 15 mn walk. Few facilities there in early April but pleasant spot and lovely walks along coastline. Good offer of coffee and cake at hotel by the beach and good fish restaurant close by. Near the hotel, there are a few local shops including a small Pemo supermarket, bars and restaurants open late in a small shopping centre and also a post-office very close(all on Kralja Tomislava street). In the old city, make sure you 'do' the walls(fantastic views in all directions), stop for a coffee at the Gradska Kavana near the Rector's palace, have lunch at the Lokanda Pescarija in front of the old port and that you go to Buza (not cheap but definitely worthwhile)for a drink while watching a breathtaking sunset with swallows swooping around the city walls. We found the best local specialities and helpful service in the old city opposite the Serbian Church in a lovely little shop called 'Franja'(fairly pricey). If you have time, plan a trip to Srd -hill overlooking the city - for a spectacular view of Dubrovnik and inland towards Bosnia.
