Our short stay at Barker's Island

Posted Jun 19, 2015
Pros: We were close to the pool which is very nice and we enjoy that a lot. Food was good. Rooms were large enough and nice. Scenery nice.
Cons: Can't think of anything right now.
Location: A lot of hiking by the lake. Sailboating if you like that sort of thing. Swimming in the pool. Going to Duluth and taking in various activities.
We have stayed at Barker's Island quite a few times. We even rented a sailboat out of there years ago. Enjoyed it a lot. It is quiet and peaceful there and good place to relax away from the city. It is close to activities and the scenery is beautiful. Food was good also. Staff was very cordial to us. Would recommend it to friends and will for sure stay there again.

Overpriced for what you get

Posted Jun 15, 2015
Pros: The location gave us some great scenery.
Cons: Get some pillows a person can actually use. When renovating a room, ventilate it for a couple days before renting it out.
Location: Tons to do in Duluth/Superior. We did the tour of the Glensheen mansion, The Vista cruise in the harbor for supper was fun.
Our room was recently redone. However, the overpowering smell from the new carpet made it difficult to sleep. We asked about another room but where told nothing was available. The pillows where so thin that trying to lay down on the bed and watch tv was a joke. Only two pillows where in the room. When we left for supper, we asked at the front desk for two more. They where in the room upon our return, but they where no better.

Disappointing sleep experience

Posted Jun 2, 2015
Pros: Staff was very friendly and accomodating
Cons: Thicker pillows and pillow top beds
Location: We were in town for a family function, so did not take advantage of all that was near, but it was a good location
When we arrived, the room was not quite ready, but by the time we brought our luggage up, we were good to go. The biggest disappointment were the pillows! They were so thin, even when we folded them in half! We ended up calling for 4 more pillows, which housekeeping gladly and promptly brought up. The beds were also a little hard, not what we are used to. The pool area was right outside our door (which is how we booked it) but was still a little loud. There were not enough pool towels, so we had to bring some from the room. I would have liked to see a staff member go through the area once in a while to moniter the towels and the noise level. Restaurant was fabulous and the wait staff was very efficient there. Would go back except for the beds.

Nice view of Lake Superior

Posted Mar 27, 2015
Pros: The view and grounds
Cons: Updated areas of the hotel
Location: This was a business trip
The hotel is a bit dated. There were "excuse the dust" signs but not much work going on.

Cons: no children in the whirlpool. It's not relaxing (that's the purpose) to have 4-6 little kids kicking and splashing around me.
I was there to see the Christmas lights at Canal Park in Duluth. I was with my daughter and 3 grandchildren. I liked the fact that we were by the pool, easy to check on the kids (16-14 and 6 years). The room was nice.

Great location, staff & room. We will come back.

Posted Nov 26, 2014
Pros: location, friendly staff & good food
Cons: All is good as is.
A lot of kids being kids yelling and screaming in the hall next to the pool. At 10 pm the hotel staff was patrolling the halls informing the kids and parents that it was now quiet time. That worked and we were able enjoy a quiet and restful night. We have put Barkers Island at the top of our list for places to stay when we return to the Duluth/Superior area.

Ok stay

Posted Nov 18, 2014
Everything was clean but hotel is old and ran down. My sheets had a hole and the air conditioner would kick on every once in awhile just for fun. Was worth the price compared to other I have seen. We did get free breakfast which was very nice and great meal and service

OK Place But Needs Updating

Posted Oct 7, 2014
Pros: Bathroom was nice; new tile and a good shower.
Cons: Update it. Old style TV, furniture is old, mini-fridge was noisy, coffee pot was ancient.
This is a decent hotel sorely in need of updating. And I'm sure it's more enjoyable in the summer when you can take advantage of the waterfront location.
