Duluth

Posted Nov 11, 2014
Pros: Near downtown but not right on the busy street. Close the the lecture room I needed the next day. Diet Mountain Dew in the soda machines.
Cons: better breakfast. Hard boiled eggs were ok, the rest offered was carbs.
Location: Breakfast on checkout day two blocks away. Plenty of restaurants near by. Ate at Pickwicks
Good The receptionist called me at 8pm to confirm that I was still needing the room. I was about an hour away and appreciated that they called before giving my room away. Check in was routine. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. It was cool outside and I did turn the heat up. The heater was a little breezy but comfortable. I spent two nights. I didn't need cleaning but the cleaning service made sure to ask nicely. Good parking.

convenient hotel to Canal Park

Posted Oct 27, 2014
Pros: This hotel is conveniently located near Canal Park, easy to drive to and from...is also easy to get to the scenic north shore drive from here.
Cons: Parking near the entrance/check in is tight but does offer roomier parking at the back of the motel.
Location: Nicely located near Canal Park, you can walk or drive.
hotel is pet friendly and had no problem with my pet while there. There is a back alley to walk your pet.

Decent old hotel, crap neighborhood.

Posted Oct 20, 2014
Pros: Staff, downtown (though neighborhood was filled with homeless people hanging about)
Cons: Lower the price.
Location: Superior Ave shops, Canal Park
This is a quaint, old-style hotel that I overpaid for on MEA weekend. The staff was nice and the room was ok, but the neighborhood left something to be desired. I have to admit, we weren't harassed and the noise was from passing trucks, but my daughter was spooked by the loitering/gawking homeless, which, on one hand is insensitive and depending on one's experience, on the other, is cautiousness and level-headed concern. Overall, I'd recommend the place if you pay less than $100/night. Not worth more than that and in truth, I'd only stay there again if I got a $59/night deal or something like that.

Better than we thought it would be

Posted Oct 6, 2014
Cons: Add a microwave and fridge
This Motel does a good job making a "Motel" the nicest place possible for what they have to work with. Our room was small but clean. No microwave or fridge, but we knew that going in and brought a small cooler along. We stayed 2 nights and when we returned to our room on the second night, we were unable to get in with our keycard. We were very tired and our puppy was in the room in her kennel. (just while we went to dinner) It was 8pm so all staff but the front desk clerk was off duty. The clerk at the desk (her name is Justice) was extremely capable and friendly. It took an hour for her to make some phone calls and get in touch with a manager and two different maintenance staff to resolve the problem. But all the while she remained friendly, apologetic, and in control of the situation. The maintenance guy working on the lock was nice and also said he was sorry this happened to us. We were given that night free of charge and our puppy was just fine. Thank you to Justice at the front desk for your professional, capable, and friendly conduct!

Not a 3.5 hotel!!!

Posted Oct 4, 2014
Pros: Check in clerk was apologetic and sincere
Cons: Everything
Location: Vey dark area ok when you go a block in ant direction
You feel like you entered "the hood" when you pull in the parkng lot. Office/lobby/breakfast area is smaller than most public bathrooms and dirtier! Staff like to stand outside enter acne to office and smoke. Poor girl the night we checked in was last second sent from another site and not trained for this site. Rooms not cleaned well.

The hotel is obviously older, but had been updated quite nicely within its limitations. The room was fine, but rather cramped, and I have never seen such a small bathroom, with a tiny shower! The breakfast room was also very cramped, food very limited, and lukewarm coffee. The parking lot is on a hill, and that was somewhat of a problem for us, since my husband has balance issues walking. Staff was fine.

Check your bank account!

Posted Sep 15, 2014
Pros: Looks nice upon arrival
Cons: More then one staff member working
When we arrived everything seemed to be great, friendly staff and the room appeared to be clean. Our second night after being out all day we went to return to our hotel room and our key cards no longer worked. They only had one staff member working the front desk so we had to wait. Once we got another room key it still didn't work, turns out the key lock needed new batteries. Housekeeping never showed up so we had dirty towels and garbage’s that still needed to be taken out. The next morning we went to make coffee only to see there was mold in the coffee pot, my friend went to take a bath and move the drain only to find hairs all in the shower. At check the lady at the front desk was very apologetic and helpful- she discounted our bill. Later that day I checked my bank account to find that they charged my card 2 different times unauthorized. When I went to try and have them fix it- it took them a day in a half and numerous phone calls between the hotel and my bank until someone got back to me. They tried telling me they couldn’t see the charges on the computer but my bank assured me they could because they've had to deal with them before they just didn’t want me knowing that- I had to have my bank speak with them while I was on the phone in order to get my money back!

Old building & upped tax's

Posted Sep 8, 2014
Pros: The manager was friendly and fun, made up for the horrible room and extra money spent. I didn't complain to her, but she was very polite and funny.
Cons: Cleaner rooms for the price asked!
Location: Draw bridge and the lighthouse's. Enger tower is a must!
First we had to budge our way threw the door because it was so hard to open and had to really pull to get it to shut. Every pillow had stainson them along with one nice big brown stain under the sheets. I bring my own bedding die to this happen before so I didn't complain. The one thing I should have complained about was the fact I hopped out of the shower and as soon as I dry myself off I find a long black curly hair on the "new, clean, folded" towel! Gross, it was not mine nor my friends. The price I was told it would be was 9 dollars under what I truely paid because tax's in MN went up. It be nice to be given correct total so there's no money dampers!
