"One of our favourite places to stay."
We always stay at the Royal Marine when we are down in Dun Laoghaire for the Mountains to Sea and Poetry Now Festivals - presently in September and next year in March. We have learned to book early since it is popular that it books up quickly. I love the grandness of it and its position overlooking the harbour and the sea. It is incredibly convenient - we come from Belfast, take the Dublin Port Tunnel and then travel along the coast to Dun Laoghaire. If I'm going down on my own I take the train to Connolly and then the Dart out and it is easy and safe. The borough itself - Dun Laoghaire Rathdown is great supporter of the arts so you feel that you are at home when you arrive. The hotel is within minutes from the Pavillion Theatre and now the beautiful new Lexicon Library which has also opened the hotel up again to the front. When new flats enroached on its gardens years ago it was sad but it seems somehow restored to grandeur now between the modern buildings. As well as the wonderful Victorian pier there are also beautiful walks to Sandycove, Joyce's Tower, The Forty-Foot bathing place and so on and a selection of lovely restaurants on 'the metals' - the area on the front of the coast - so called because of the old metal tracks used to bring building materials into the town. There are also some great shops including Meadow and Byrnes and a very good children's section in Easons minutes from the hotel.

"Local hospitality at it's very finest."
Upon booking this hotel we did so as it has parking and a breakfast. - Litte did we know that the hotel would make our holiday the great weekend that it was. Upon arrival we were welcomed with such friendliness and familiarity. The room was impeccable and extremely quiet meaning we got a much needed good nights sleep after a day of sightseeing in dublin centre. In a morning it is fair to say that Maria's breakfast is exceptional - the choice is vast and special requests are taken with hot food all cooked to order. The hotel is perfect for a dublin break - we opted to use the DART train which got us into the city centre in 20 minutes. Also within a 5 minute walk from the hotel is a charming highstreet with good pubs and a range of shops - both local and bigger names.

    Dun Laoghaire, Dublin Hotel Guide

Dublin's ferry port to Britain, Dun Laoghaire, or Laoire (pronounced 'Leary') is 12 kilometres south of the city centre and accessible via the DART light railway. In summer its long East Pier bustles with day-trippers. Boat trips are also popular. Take the DART one kilometre south to Sandycove to see the James Joyce Museum. Two stops further on, Dalkey is Dublin Bay's most prestigious address, home to the likes of U2.
