Central Dunedin HotelPosted Feb 17, 2014
The hotel was very adequate from all perspectives. I was staying there for Orientation Week for Otago University so I was not surprised at the high room rate. The hotel is tired and could use a big renovation. In saying that, everything was clean. I purchased the WiFi and that was a good value and good speed. My only real complaint was that my room was not cleaned after my first night. I did not arrive back to the room until late in the day and it was too late to have it cleaned.

Convenient location, good value.Posted Feb 16, 2014
Pros: Great location, super friendly staff -evening clerk Karen(?) was just fabulous-, laundry on site, clean and comfy place to lay your head.
Cons: Free wifi to the rooms would be great. $15/ 24 hours is a tad expensive, and offering free wifi is really pretty standard.
Location: Plenty of surrounding pubs, cafes, restaurants and 2 supermarkets. Near rail station, Cadbury factory and museums. U of Otago easy 15 min walk away.
I was in Dunedin for a conference at the University of Otago, and was very pleased with the Victoria Hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly, probably a little more so than I'm used to actually. But a smile and a friendly face goes a long way with a weary traveller! Plenty of amenities in the room, the only thing I would liked to have seen would have been a microwave. But I didn't have a kitchen suites, so that's probably not a legitimate complaint. The Nandos and restaurant / bar downstairs was convenient, but there are so many surrounding restaurants, cafes and bars that you'd be silly not to wander around and explore. In fact, the location is a huge selling point. It's close to tourist attractions, the octagon, supermarkets and other amenities, and is a really easy and pleasant walk to the University. The only real downside was that the hotel did not offer free wifi to the rooms. In my experience this was very unusual, and for business travellers a real inconvenience. Sadly, while all other aspects of my stay were terrific, this fact alone would probably factor into my choice about whether I choose to stay at the Victoria on my next trip to Dunedin. If another hotel offered a comparable price and location with free wifi to the rooms, I'd probably consider staying there instead. Management should keep this in mind. It's the only drawback of any otherwise terrific hotel.

Rooms and hallway a bit tired looking and funny smell in the room but staff friendly and location good, reasonable value for money

I recommend this Hotel the best for sightseeing.Posted Feb 8, 2014
Pros: Friendliness of staff who were ready to help at all times
Cons: Inside coat of paint - a new hotel menu and generally brightening up
Location: Location was perfect for me as I could not walk long distances and I was able to take tours to all the sights
I am a very mobile 89 year old lady. This Hotel was perfectly located for me and the Staff were excellent, kind and helpful. I understand that the Owners have began refurbishing as the Dining Room and Lounge are drab and uninviting and the bedrooms clean and large need drawers of some sort for people who are staying more than one night. Otherwise, I would recommend this Hotel to my friends Eunice Defries

A comfortable stayPosted Jan 27, 2014
Pros: proximity to local attractions.
Cons: a bit more space would improve the comfort level.
Location: Dunedin Train Station, Farmers Market on Saturday, restaurants and shops
We had the penthouse for two nights and it was a rather pleasant stay overall. Wifi in your own room costed $15 for 24 hours and we opted to use the free wifi available in the lobby, which was very fast. Staff at the hotel were friendly. There are are two bedrooms, one with a queen and one with a double bed plus a sofa bed in the penthouse. Cooking utensils were rather basic but was adequate for us as we did not do much cooking in the unit. The hotels is within walking distance to a lot of restaurants and shops and if you happen to stay in this hotel, drop in to the seafood shop just diagonally opposite to the hotel. We bought the best and the freshest mussels ever from there. Walking to either Count Down & New World supermarkets would take less than five mins. It's also within a short stroll to Dunedin Train Station.

Location: The hotel is located next to the Cadbury factory tour and is a couple of blocks from the downtown central square and restaurants.
The hotel is centrally located. It is an older hotel however the rooms were clean and comfortable. I would stay there again. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was closed the day we were there for a holiday, however the Nando's restaurant was open which is in the same building and it had very reasonably priced meals.

To the Director of the hotel VictoriaPosted Jan 10, 2014
Pros: city centre location is great
Cons: No small table by the armchair which would have been nice to set a cup or glass on. The chair by the desk had a tear and had been patched.
Our experience at your hotel was made amazing by your day manager, Ben. I was as the desk at least once a day, and Ben was extremely pleasant and very helpful no matter how busy he was, the hotel was quite full during the time we were there. Ben made reservations for us and was knowledgeable of the city sights. On our arrival we were disappointed to discover that the room, although was very nice and spacious, was not how the website described a deluxe studio complete with kitchen. Ben was able to compensate for that by adding a couple of benefits that the hotel had available. The clincher was our panic during our last 10 minutes at the hotel. We thought our bus was leaving at 1:45, only to discover that it was leaving at 12:45 - just 10 minutes after the discovery! Ben was able to quickly get us a taxi which got us to the bus at the exact moment of departure! In addition, he called the bus terminal to inform them that we were just minutes away! Service such as this is rare and made our stay very pleasant. So a huge thanks to Ben from the Liebergot's.
