Wonderful hotel

Posted Jul 30, 2015
Pros: Location and staff
Cons: Price point is a little high but it was worth the money.
Location: Downtown Durango (shopping/dining) is a short walk away, the Durango Silverton Train boarding station is a 5 minute walk.
Driving from New Mexico we encountered a delay that was going to force a very late check in. We called ahead to inform the front desk. When we arrived near midnight the check-in was quick and efficient and we were in our room with luggage in 20 minutes. Each staff member we encountered was courteous, friendly, and willing to help. The hotel is located on the banks of the Animas River and a river view (with balcony) is wonderful. The Doubletree is a 5 minute walk to downtown Durango, The Durango-Silverton Train, shopping and dining. However the dining in this hotel is very good as well if you tired from an all-day train excursion.

Nice touch with the warm cookies at check in, excellent location along Animas river and walking distance from downtown. Clean, well run hotel.

Hotel was ok but definitely needs to be refurbished. Carpets old and worn, decor seemed dark

Bad experience

Posted Jul 15, 2015
I walked up to the front desk, two clerks talking with each other I stood 3 mins before they ask if they could help me, the bed had bed bugs, ugh, are the breakfast buffet and bacon was cold. Not a good stay for $300

Expensive

Pros: The room was large, clean and comfortable
Cons: Being prepared for a full house.
Location: Durango is a really cute, historical town with shopping, train rides and white water rafting.
we stayed during a holiday, so maybe the hotel is usually better. They seemed as if they were not prepared for the rush. We rode the train and got back to the hotel about 7 p.m. All of the restaurants in town were overcrowded so we tried to get into the hotel restaurant that is on the patio. They told us it would be 1 to 11/2 hour wait, as they were cleaning off tables. We went to the inside, upstairs restaurant. They seated us right away, but told us that they did not have enough menus. When we finally did get menus it took about an hour to get our appetizer and then our food came right after that. This is a pet friendly hotel, which I am not opposed to at all. However, the dog in the next room would not stop barking. I told the front desk and they said they would take care of it. The dog stopped for a while, but then resumed. We received a wakeup call at 6:10 the next morning, which we did not ask for. I don't know if that was a mistake or retaliation for complaining about the barking dog.

Nice hotel on river and close to town

Posted Jul 13, 2015
Pros: Location and pet friendly.
Cons: Nothing!
We traveled with our 2 bulldogs who loved the view from the sliding glass door that opened to green grass and a roaring river. We were close enough to walk into town and loved the walking trail along the river. The room was clean and comfortable and included a mini fridge and microwave.

Pros: Location!
Cons: The restaurant!! The location of the restaurant is awesome right on the river. However, the service and food was not very good.
Loved the location and the room was very spacious. Wish that a room facing the river had been available.

Nice hotel close to downtown

Although the hotel needs updating, it has a great location for catching the train or spending time downtown.
