For the price, the motel was better than expected. The room and linens smelled clean and fresh; the king bed was comfortable; there were lots of freebies/samples of toiletries; and the staff went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. We appreciated the "quiet after 10 pm" policy. The continental breakfast was very simple, but having a fridge and microwave in the room made it possible to supplement with more meal options. There's a small park right behind the hotel, and the high school is across the street. The free trolley bus stops just down the street so you can go downtown and not worry about paying a meter during the day. We'd stay at the midtown Knights Inn again.

Check-in was fast and the staff was very friendly. Our room was right by the office and on ground level. I opened the door and saw only one bed. Then I noticed a staircase that lead up to a loft with the other bed which was great for privacy, we had our son with us. There was a fridge with a good freezer, a microwave and a little table.
The continental breakfast was a surprise also with waffles, cereal, orange and cranberry juices blueberry muffins and nice fresh bagels all in a nice comfortable, sunny breakfast room. This hotel is on the north end of town, we though we'd passed it, but it was easy to see when we got there and being up there was easy in and out, no traffic, and nice a quiet. We will stay there again.

Great stay at a great price. Arrived in town at 2 am rousing the night clerk (Kevin?) with the phone number posted on the office door. He was gracious and arrived moments later. My room, like most rooms, was close to the office. Parking was right outside my door. Because of the topography, my room on the second floor had ground-level parking at the door but a second story balcony view of the mountains in the back. The balcony connected to the four other balconies on the four other units on my floor. Clean room, King bed comfy, clean sheets, adequate blankets and five nice pillows. Satisfactory room aroma and temperature control. Good shower. I'm 6'1" and didn't have to duck. Soft, not scratchy normal sized bath towels. Large TV, fridge, and microwave in room. For those who can't unplug they have WIFI.
All in all, this is probably the best room I've ever gotten at this price point. Most times when I need a room, I just need a place to crash and shower and move on, so I usually get a bare bones room at a bare bones price. I suffer with the low shower heads and scratchy towels not big enough to dry your back. Not to mention the questionable aromas!
My only issue was there was no way to close the drain in the sink to put in my contact lenses and shave but seems like an easy fix. Electrical outlets were scarce.
This place was a pleasant surprise, nice enough for an extended stay. I plan on going back to Durango and will definitely be staying at the Spanish Trails again.
