"Authentic castle with comforts of 1st class hotel"
Fabulous. My visit coincided with a Wedding Fayre so I was able to view many of the rooms normally occupied by guests. It is a credit to the establishment that they are able to offer such a high class service without losing the 'Old-World charm.

Reserved a standard double. Asked for an upgrade at check-in. They gave us an Executive Suite for 40 pounds more per night. With an Executive Suite you get free breakfast buffet (excellent) for two, free newspaper, twice the room size with sofa, wine each evening, water, free parking, etc. Wow! What a deal. On river close by Durham University, Rail Station, Restaurants, Bars. The Best.

my stay at the hotel was really good however two things it was a bit confusing trying to get to your room because of the layout of the hotel which can't really be helped and also the heat in the hotel was immense -

This was my first visit to St Georges and i thought it was fantastic, especially for the price. Not an contemporary modern hotel but as it was a US army barracks from the 2nd World War it had a ton of character, and i loved the old photos in the bar area. I stay away a lot with business and as opposed to the fake niceness of many hotels, the staff seemed genuinely happy to help, even with me being quite particular. Comfy beds, decent food and a good nights sleep were boxes all ticked. I'll go back next time i'm down..
