This hotel is truly exceptional. The quality of the rooms are very very good. I stay in hotels approximately 100-120 nights each year, and this is my favourite of all of them. Can’t say any more than that.
The Devonport is a very friendly, efficiently run gastro pub and restaurant with boutique rooms. All the staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. Covid precautions were all in place. The food quality was excellent and reasonably priced. The bedrooms were spacious, comfortable, clean and stylish with all the amenities you would need. I would definitely recommend the Devonport for both dining and for their accommodation. I look forward to returning.
This place is a little gem. My parents lived in the village for years, so I've known the hotel/bar/restaurant for a long time and must say, that the new owners have really put a lot of effort into updating it into a very beautiful place. The staff are so friendly and very efficient and the food is absolutely delicious! Looking forward to a return visit.
Immaculately clean and I mean sparkling throughout the pub/restaurant and rooms. Very friendly and professional staff who are attentive but not overbearing. The room and bathroom very comfortable and fresh shortbread biscuits on the tea tray a lovely touch. We had some of the best fish and chips ever here too. Breakfast was very good and set us up for our working day. Overall, a fantastic stay and we will definitely return next time we are in the area - cannot recommend highly enough
As I travel a lot on business, it is refreshing to stay in a "personal" type of hotel.
Stunning room, great breakfast, and lovely Bar/Restaurant, complete with a log fire and personal service
Short tourist trip for 3 adult family mbrs. Hotel has recently been refurbished and is comfortable and beautifully decorated. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Staff were lovely, friendly and efficient. It didn't matter how many people were eating - and it was very busy at times - there was always enough staff - well done management. We would certainly go back especially as we didn't have time to explore the local walks or the other restaurants owned by the family..
Comfortable and relaxing 3 nights in this beautifully renovated hotel/pub. Beautiful bedroom and breakfast and evening meals excellent. Will stay again.
Arrived to find a For Sale sign on wall and all doors locked. Phoned a mobile number and were let in. The hotel is closed due to change of hands and is being refurbished. There was no record of our booking through Expedia! Slept well as two single beds made a super-king and bed was comfy and it was very quiet and nice and warm. Enjoyed the pub quiz on the Sunday evening when the bar was packed. Looking forward to seeing what the hotel will be like when we go again.
Lovely hotel, great rrom with a king size bed, lovely restaurant, very nice staff, a really friendly place, the only small negative was that the bathrooms was in need of refurbishment, but it was functional
I wanted to stay near The Tees but visit Darlington where I grew up and found this hotel. It is very friendly and atmospheric.
The breakfasts were very good but I would have liked some fresh fruit. We are there each evening and it is good pub food and very popular.
Our room was fine but needed new firmer pillows. It is under new ownership and the present.manager and his staff are excellent. It is excellent value for money.
Wi Fi not working, Window blinds Filthy, Curtains Don't meet in middle leaving about a foot gap, Hook on back of room door put on upside down, sani-Flo toilet (noisy)
Great staff, Good food, Location
A great place to stay to get away from the city. The food was excellent, room was clean, staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was a little on the soft side.

Good value for money.
Friendly staff and great breakfast included in price. We had our evening meal in the bar/restaurant area - very good mel and good price. Room was large and clean, bathroom very large and clean also. Room is old but it's clean, quiet and spacious. Very good value for money. It's not flash, doesn't offer room service so if you want those things this isn't the place for you. But is a good plain, clean local hotel room with friendly staff and good food. Would stay again.

Lovely location & friendly staff. Fabulous breakfast. Bedroom had nice clean linen but very dated & smelled a bit musty. In need of thorough updating of flooring & furniture.
Comfortable, appropriately priced and excellent food. Would have rated it higher but the bathroom door would not close or stay shut which is a maintenance issue that should have been picked up. Othet than that, loved it and would definately book it again.
Just a one night stop over on business. Lovely big room and very comfortable bed. Didn't have time for breakfast. In a lovely village. Would use this hotel again. Nice friendly staff. Wifi very slow though
All staff were realy nice, pleasant and helpful. Room (2) was very clean, comfortable & surprisingly very well sound proofed!
TBH, you cannot go wrong with this hotel. The pub is always lively & full of very friendly locals.
The local area is very clean, quiet & scenic.
AND the FREE breakfast is absolutely beautiful!!
Will definately stay there again!
This was our second visit to this hotel and although management had changed the service had not. The staff couldn't do enough and are so friendly. The food was excellent both at dinner and breakfast. We will be returning.

Friendly and relaxing
We wanted a relaxing night and a good meal and weren't disappointed at all. Service was excellent as was the food. The bedrooms are apparently being refurbished and although that is still a work in progress our room was clean and comfortable and offered a lovely view of open countryside.
I was less than impressed when I turned up at around 5pm and after waiting several minutes near the hotel desk (which didn't have a bell), I had to drag my luggage through the restaurant into the bar to find someone to check me in. The room was big and quite quiet given that it's above a bar/restaurant, but the bed was very low and overall the room looked in need of some decorative attention. The breakfast was tasty, but again at check-out I had to hunt someone down from the kitchen to return my key. Not a bad stay if you want somewhere quiet near the airport, but if you want prompt service then perhaps stay somewhere else.
