Adequate accommodation with benefit of gym usePosted Nov 16, 2013
Pros: Relative value for money; provision of twin beds on request.
Cons: Properly functioning kettle and bathroom vent system.
Location: Well placed for getting in to Durham and its many attractions; convenient for A1. Recommend the 3 Horseshoes pub restaurant at Leamside - excellent!
We were visiting Durham to see both our student son and the Lumiere so Hotel Bannatyne was well placed for both. Accommodation was basic but functionally adequate (with the exception of a kettle which had a mind of its own and would turn itself off randomly before boiling the water). Beds were much softer than we prefer but didn't prevent us sleeping. Great shower but couldn't get what looked like a sophisticated venting device to work! Whilst the breakfast arrangements (paying for item by item at the gym cafe) prevented waste it wasn't what we are used to or have come to expect from eating facilities attached to a hotel (did not compare favourably with Travelodge or Premier Inn). Overall standard of hotel comparable with Travelodge. When we booked we weren't aware that the gym use was included and no one mentioned this to us when we checked in. It only came to light when we asked at the gym after breakfast in the morning. We then noticed some information in the hotel folder in the room; it would have been helpful if someone had mentioned this on arrival. Perhaps most people are aware at the time of booking.

Nice hotel, great for a business stay.Posted Nov 7, 2013
Pros: Comfy good overall experience.
Cons: More space between the twin beds, food available in hotel.
Loved the facilities, the gym next door is in good condition and has fairly good opening times. We used the cafe bar for dinner and it was quite good quality for microwaved meals. Room comfy, beds very comfy. Housekeeping was a bit lax, didn't clean out the bins but other than that perfect. Fresh towel each day and topped up hot drink supplies. Receptionist, lady who checked us in, moved our room at checkin to ensure we had a better stay with less noise, she moved us to the quietest room as we had exams to prep for. Overall, if I had to come to Durham again I works stay here.

Good place to stay.--bus to town across road or half-hour walk. Excellent breakfast at Sports Centre for small cost--well done Kayleigh.

Good valuePosted Sep 1, 2013
Pros: The staff were really nice
Cons: Check out time was a bit too early
Location: Only a short bus ride into town or about £5 to £6 in a taxi , plenty of nice pubs and restaurants , we also visited the cathedral
The room was clean, bed was quite comfortable, The staff were really helpful, especially the receptionist (Julie) she was really nice, recommended some nice places to go and gave us some really helpful advice, the only downside was the noise in the corridor from other guests, they weren't being especially loud but the walls were so thin when people were talking it sounded as though they were in the room with you!

although location was out of the way, only a short bus ride to the centre, the hotel was very good value compared to the rest of the hotels in Durham, very clean and comfortable rooms

Great valuePosted Aug 7, 2013 on Hotels.com
We stayed for 2 nights in the Durham hotel and expected it to be basic for the price. However, the room was a good size, very comfortable beds and pillows. It was clean and bright and had everything we needed including quality toilet rolls! It was out of town and although we had a car there seemed to be plenty of buses. A great bonus was the included use of the Health Club beside the hotel, excellent pool and facilities including a café serving healthy foods at reasonable prices. The café doubles as a relaxing sitting area with TV too. The staff were friendly and helpful and I highly recommend this hotel.

Highly recommend - great location & great service!Posted Aug 5, 2013 on Hotels.com
Would highly recommend this hotel. Rooms spacious with tea and coffee making facilities, immaculate bathroom, lovely comfy bed and great service. We also had use of the Health Clubs SPA facilities. If you're visiting the local area and need somewhere to stay this is the place.
