Breakfast
Overall we enjoyed our stay. It was a family wedding so we had an amazing day. Only criticism was the breakfast. I had the eggs benidict it was cold, tea was cold my husband and other members of our family had full english they all said it wasent good . I would normally complain but we'd had such a lovely time i didn't want to spoil anything.

Room 10 - AVOID if Over 5'9".
Do not stay in room 10 if you expect to stand up whilst you shower. My partner had to shower on his knees; he's around 6'1" so not overly tall and I'd say this would be the case for anyone over 5'9". Similarly, his feet hung out the bottom of the bed which significantly impacted upon his sleep. In addition, the door to reception is next to the room which bangs each time someone goes through. We suggested to the reception staff that it needs to be slow closing and they said they're aware of this due to previous complaints but haven't actioned anything. Why, I don't know. Finally, we had to use the body wash as hand wash and keep moving it from the shower to the sink which I've never had to do, apparently this is acceptable and the reception staff did not understand why this was an issue. We were also told that "there's a first for everything" when we explained about the shower issue. I do not believe that this is the first time this issue has been raised because most couples would have the same problem. I understand they are unable to change the shower due to the structure of the room but guests should be told upon booking and have the option to request a different room. This review would have had a different tone if the customer service had been better when we feedback at checkout but we did not feel it was acknowledged or that anything would be rectified.

Nice hotel let down by lack of maintenance
Booked a delux room with hot tub for a 1 night stay. The hotel itself is very nice and very busy. What let it down was the lack of maintenance in the room. The hot tub produced a scum on the surface of the water as soon as you turned on the jets, the TV in the luxury bathroom didn't work, the free wifi in the room didn't work and one of the steps down to the outdoor hot tub was loose and very dangerous ( a previous repair had been bodged ) We were given 10% off but I booked a luxury room for a reason.

wedding bliss
we went there because we had an invitation to a evening reception to a wedding that was held there that afternoon. The hotel staff were very efficient and very friendly the room was extremely warm and comfortable ,those that were at the wedding said the food was excellent we had roast beef in very large buns with wedges or fries the beef was rather tough but the fries and gravy went down well. The breakfast was delicious and we would not hesitate to pay another visit in the near future.

Traditional friendly English Hotel
South Causey Inn is a lovely place I have stayed in quiet a few hotels, with plenty disappointing but this one certainly didn't. All the staff I encountered were very friendly. Better yet after my sister in law took too long to get ready for a wedding and was going to be late the owner volunteered to drop her and 3 others off. Never been to a hotel where they would do that. The rooms are great with old fashioned oak furniture but with a modern en suite. Food was great and there is an amazing open log fire downstairs in the well furnished bar.

Potentially a lovely environment but TOO NOISY
Sadly this hotel was terribly disappointing. There was no wifi in the room at all. From 8pm to just after midnight the noise from the disco was so loud we might as well have been at the disco. The walls reverberated from the sound. We could not watch the TV or talk, much less sleep. I even did a recording of the noise to prove how incredibly loud it was. When I politely explained how disappointed we were the next day the manager only offered to take our drinks off the bill. For an expensive night away I was really upset and aggrieved that this token gesture was all that was offered. Very poor customer service and I would not return.

One wonderful day and night
My Partner and I stayed in room 18 at this hotel/Inn and we couldn't fault it. The room was spacious, spotless and extremely comfortable. There is a door leading out to a patio with tables chairs and is excellent for people who like to smoke. We spent an hilarious hour in the rooms jaccuzi/ bath, up to our eyeballs in bubbles and watched the television that is built into the bathroom wall ! The food was first class and we really enjoyed our evening meal, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and the staff were extremely well mannered and efficient. We both think that we had great value for money and will definitely visit again. If your considering a visit, go for it...it was great !

Great Hotel
I had a great stay here and if you like something different from traditional hotels then this is the place. The rooms were great, food was excellent and staff were very helpful. Only downside I suppose is the 2.5% credit card charge which is unusual and the Cockerel announcing wake up time. My measure is always would I stay here again and the answer is yes.

Comfortable but noisy room -- good food
7 of us had a really good family meal out -- service was generally pleasant and food quality surprisingly good considering the size of the menu. 2 of us stayed the night and the room was comfortable but noisy (either air conditioning or generator) and whilst the hotel boasts good views, both rooms we saw (we changed from a twin to a double) had nothing but views of bricks and mortar.

super staff and great food
The food was fantastic with a wide ranging menu and the best puddings ever. The staff were all friendly and polite, not just the front of house staff but the chefs and housekeepers as well, and they couldn't do enough for you. The rooms were clean and well presented with lovely grounds. The prices in the restaurant were fantastic value as were the room rates. We will definitley go back.

A Very Pleasant Stay
The hotel is quite popular locally so arriving on a warm evening, the bar and restaurant were quite busy with the only parking on slightly rough ground away from the entrance. Our room was upstairs and there is no lift so was slightly inconvenient getting our luggage in. Reception staff were pleasant and helpful. Room was a reasonable size and comfortable. It was a warm night and the duvet was a winter weight but at least there was a sheet between the duvet and me so that I was able to push the duvet aside and sleep under the sheet. Opening the window was not an option as folk singers in the bar below were already a little loud and opening the window would have made it impossible to sleep. The grounds here are really nice with the stables and walk up to the lake. The restaurant is very good but beware, portions are enormous and we struggled to finish our 1 course main meal. We were glad we didn't have a starter and had no room left for a dessert. One thing to note is that Expedia reserve a room but do not take prepayment for this hotel. You have to pay at the hotel.

There are not enough Superlatives!
Everything that others have written in the positive is true. The South Causey Inn knows just how to provide top class accommodation, with excellent service, in beautiful surroundings. And the food...oh the food...beautifully prepared and presented, cooked to perfection and bearing in mind the size of the meals fantastic value for money. A perfect location for a family getaway, overnight stop, romantic weekend...actually perfect regardless of the occasion.

Perfect Place to Relax
This was a lovely hotel and the staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout our visit. The grounds are lovely and it is really nice to see the variety of animals there. We live in the country so it was like home from home with the cocks crowing in the morning. Lovely to visit the stables too. There is a real family friendly atmosphere about the place and the food was exceptional and very good value. Definitely will visit again.

Brill Hotel to stay
My husband and I are both profoundly deaf and the staff at this hotel did everything to make us very welcome and nothing was a bother to them for anything we asked plus ringing for a taxi to Beamish where we attended our friend's wedding.. When we arrived on 6/10/12 we were welcomed by hens running around in the courtyard which was a lovely sight to see and also there was a stable where horses were kept which you could hire to ride. Our room was no 15 a lovely double standard room overlooking the countryside with a bath & shower. We had a meal in the restaurant which was excellent and the staff very friendly. There is a coffee shop which we didn't use and they even have Archery, Air Rifle Shooting and Clay Pigeon Shooting.. Next morning we had breakfast which was fab and you could choose anything from orange juice.cereals, fruit, to full English breakfast, the only thing the room could have been a bit warmer as it was a cold morning. Overall a fabulous hotel to stay and we would go back any time and a credit to all staff there.

A very warm welcome and great value for money with plenty of things to do if you feel active. The hotel itself was also to a high standard with free W-Fi but only four channels on the TV.

Very welcoming and helpful staff
The hotel staff were very welcoming and helpful. When our car got stuck on a snowy road they drove my husband to the car to toe him out. The rooms were very comfy with charming wooden furniture. We had a cot put in ours for our toddler. We had a lovely full English every morning, once again the staff were very friendly and hospitable. The Inn is set in the countryside outside of Stanley. I would love to come back when there is no snow to take advantage of the horse riding and outdoor activities. My only suggestion is don't trust the GPS when getting directions - come off the main road and not the back road when driving in snowy weather.

A Geordie gem
An excellent welcome followed by a friendly and courteous service from everyone we met. Nice bar with good choice of ales plus a very popular restaurant with locals. Food came in generous portions; good, but not exceptional, quality. Whole place is an Equestrian Centre too so stables surround the hotel, but it is not overly horsey! We only stayed one night this trip but if we return to the North East we will definitely use the South Causey Inn again. Country location but access perfect for either Durham or Newcastle city centres.

Not impressed
Room was very pokey, right above the kitchen extractor fan which was switched on at 6.30am and the noise from it was like a jet engine, so no sleep from then on. The previous night whilst standing talking at the bar the barman casually shooed away a mouse with his foot under the counter as if he was used to it!!! Was first down for breakfast because of the fan noise and sat and waited for 30 minutes before I was served, spent the time listening to the cleaners discussing the 'rat' also!! Would not stay here again.
