Moderate Hotel Well-Deserving of High Ratings
Europahotel Gent was as advertised: a moderate-priced hotel well-deserving of its high overall ratings. Our room was clean, comfortable, and spacious enough. The hotel, which provided free on-site parking, is located near a tram stop or within 20-30 minutes walking distance from the center of Gent. We appreciated that the hotel allowed us to check-in about 2 hours early. We did not take breakfast or dinner at the hotel because they seemed a bit pricey.

The hotel appears to being a bit tired. Nearly all the staff are very helpful and friendly. The youngman with the trendy hairstyle is a bit surly. The restaurant is a bit unwelcoming. And the bar and it's prices! When you first arrive outside the hotel, you are greeted by a walkway of cigarette butts, not nice.

This hotel is fairly basic but the rooms are OK and the bathroom is roomy with a proper bath. The breakfast buffet was very good and there seemed to be quite a lot of local people coming to the hotel to enjoy their breakfast there. Unfortunately the restaurant had to close for a couple of days due to illness, but when we did eat there the food was good although we did have to wait some time for it to arrive.

Friendly reception, good advice on what's available locally. Hotel is well positioned for the tram into town or the 20 minute walk. Room a little basic but comfortable except for the carpet or floor covering which is the thinnest I have ever experienced.

This was a nice room with good lighting and pretty good decor, etc. The view out the window was quite nice as well, right along the Leie river. The bed was two smaller beds. Not sure why that's done but it seems to be pretty common practice. I'd rather have just one bed. And it was pretty hammock-ish. But I got used to it. Friendly, helpful folks. I'd definitely stay here again.

What I liked: It was quiet with a peaceful view of the river. The desk staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was clean and even had a refrigerator. What I didn't like: It was quite a walk from the train station OR from the city center. The flooring in our room was super uncomfortable -- like a plastic woven rug that you would use on a patio.

Very nicely done hotel: modern and elegant yet comfortable. The breakfast was an expensive addition to my room price but beautifully done though I would have expected a chef preparing custom omelettes for the guests at that price point. I only stayed one night before moving on so I did not get to experience the biking tour or boating day as offered in hotel package deals but they are something I would do in the future on holiday.

Good if you don't mind a walk.
Europa Hotel is in a quiet residential suburb on a canal about 15 mins walk from the train station and a pleasant 25 mins walk along the canal to the Old Town. There is a supermarket 10 mins away but no restaurants in the area except for the one in the hotel which we found perfectly fine. We liked the kettle and frig in the room and that you can open the window.

Good downtown hotel with nice amenities. Checkin time is 2pm which is late, but was able to get a room 3 hours earlier. Not many shopping options in close proximity such as grocery stores etc

Very friendly and quick check-in. The bed and pillow, however, left much to be desired. The light switches are positioned on the headboard and have a blue glow in the OFF position. It's quite annoying to sleep with a blue glow right above your head. Recommended that you bring an eye mask. In addition to the light, the ONE pillow was small and lumpy. No support. Felt cheap. Overall, it was not a very comfortable night's sleep. But aside from this, the room was in good and clean condition.

This hotel is perfect. The staff are great, helpful in every way. You can walk along the canal direct into the historical area of Ghent. The room was large with a wonderful view out of the large windows to watch all the traffic on the canal.

Great location, about 25 min scenic walk along the canal to the old city centre. Free parking (limited number of spaces) or cheap parking in the road outside (€3 for 24 hours). Spacious room, king-size bed and quiet at night.

We chose the his hotel as it had free parking. It was about a 20 minute walk into Ghent from hotel. There were not a lot of restaurants in the area we could walk to which was a disadvantage. Hotel clean,but rooms could be painted to update it a bit. Biggest issue were the incredibly flat pillows in rooms. They provided no support for neck or head. Ended up using 2 and having to fold one over which didn’t make for the best nights sleep. Hotel is walking distance to main train station making trips to Brugge and Brussels easy.

Okay, but request a room away from the lift
Hotel is OK, though with fairly basic facilities. The air conditioning wasn’t fully working which meant the room was quite cold. However, the main issue was the VERY noisy lift mechanism in the plant room next door to our room kept us awake a lot of the night. Make sure that you request a room away from the lift!
