Great location, friendly staff (but more needed)Posted Sep 30, 2013
Pros: Location close to major tourist sites and good restaurants. Staff were always friendly and helpful - but were overstretched.
Cons: More staff required - e.g. to cover Reception AND Bar at busy times, Breakfast service AND Room Service in the morning. Better key control system.
Location: Easy walking to tourist attractions in Ghent old town centre - canals, churches, 'Adoration of the Mystic Lamb', etc.
Stayed two nights in Ghent as part of a visit to Belgium. Hotel was very convenient for many tourist sites and restaurants. Able to leave car in a public car park approx. 200 metres from the Hotel de Flandres. The hotel was let down by having insufficient staff and poor systems control. This resulted in (a) very slow service at breakfast time and (b) we received our 'welcome gift' (bottle of champagne) for our 'Executive Room - Romantic Package' stay as we left the hotel on our final morning. Because of key control problems, the (ever helpful) staff had to go out and purchase the bottle of champagne - to give to us just before we left ! Any recommendation to friends would therefore be accompanied by several caveats. (Suggest that duplicate set of keys should be available to Duty Manager at all times.)

The hotel was overall good, although more a 3*.Posted Aug 27, 2013
Pros: location, breakfast, bed
Cons: bathroom maintenance
We arrived just before midnight - I contacted the hotel a few weeks before to inform about late check-in and the room card was set aside for us. The location is very good - just across the bridge from the main square and tram stops, lots of great restaurants bars and cafes within max 10min walk. A taxi to St Pieters station will cost you 10Euro and take approx. 10mins. Our room was located on the top floor - I asked for a quiet room, being a light sleeper. The room was a good size, although windows are very small and set low - you will need the light on even during the day when reading. The bed was comfortable and the mini bar well stocked. The disappointing bit about the hotel was the shower - the top of the cabin and all the silicon between the tiles were covered in mould. The bathroom has no fan or window to provide sufficient ventilation, nevertheless mould is unacceptable. Breakfast is as expected of a 4* establishment - good variety or hot, cold, sweet and savoury options, and the patisserie selection is excellent. The breakfast room gets very busy and there is a wait for a table if you arrive around 9-9.30. The staff are very helpful, but there were only 2 of them between all the guests - expect to wait for your coffee, as there is no self service on hot drinks. Overall the stay was good/very good, the only low point being the gross shower cubicle.

Central location, friendly staffPosted Aug 4, 2013 on Hotels.com
Stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel is conveniently located for discovering Ghent and the staff are welcoming and speak good English. We did not have the hotel breakfast as that would have been €20 (we went to the spar opposite and picked up 2 croissants for €2!) However the breakfast looked popular with other guests. Room was comfortable. Our bed was springy which I didn't like, but our friends was firmer. No tea and coffee making facilities, but aswe spent much of the trip exploring the area, this wasn't an issue. I would recommend & stay there again if we go back.

Great location, nice rooms, but bit expensive.Posted Jun 17, 2013
Pros: Bed was very comfortable, bathroom was very clean and nice decor.
Cons: Price and hot rooms.
Location: Perfectly located for sightseeing and nightlife
Reception staff were especially friendly Room was great, had a bath as requested, clean bathroom and a tv with English channels. Although the room was rather warm even though the air conditioning was on full blast (room 224). Hotel was in great location. Slight downside is that it was rather expensive for one night, nearly £90 a night in school time.

Good all roundPosted May 23, 2013
Pros: Great shower
Cons: Stairs only access to room
Location: Centrally placed in the Old Town
The room was 231: accessible from the outside via a courtyard and up two flights of a timber staircase. Not good if you have heavy luggage or if rain has made the climb slippery. The outside courtyard and masonry looked rather shabby, but inside the room was lovely. Spacious, clean, quiet, excellent powerful shower, good toiletries, very comfortable and huge bed, accessible power sockets, fast (and free) WiFi - stand outside this hotel for Smart Phone internet access if you're staying at the Marriott, where internet is really slow! All in all, 50% cheaper than the Marriott 20 metres away - plus breakfast is more reasonably priced
