“Great place and centrally located”
I have absolutely no complaints about the hotel. The staff were very helpful in pointing out restaurants and recommending areas worth seeing. The loft rooms are very nice with great views of the city. If I go back to Ghent, I'll be staying here.
“good experience”
Would stay here again
“Quaint hotel in historic Ghent (Gent) Belgium”
The hotel is quaint and pretty, and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Beds were very comfortable and there was a well-stocked bar in the room. On the down side, they sometimes made wake-up calls and sometimes didn't -- so bring a travel alarm clock. Also, you have to insert a room key by the door to turn on electric and the air conditioning so the room was often stuffy when we were gone. The magnetized keys to the room regularly quit working and had to be re-keyed.
“Reasonable hotel in a great location”
The hotel is in a superb location just one block away from the historic monuments of Ghent. My room was spacious with a comfortable bed and a modern bathroom with a large selection of complementary toiletries. It also featured a large wardrobe with a easy to use safe. I would recommend a room that faces the rear because the delivery truck for the Spar grocery across the street makes a racket for at least 20 minutes very early in the morning. It was impossible to stay asleep once that started and I don't know whether that's daily occurrence or not. On a more minor note, I can't imagine how great the breakfast would have to be to be worth 20 Euros. I went to a restaurant down the street and had a nice breakfast for about 7 Euros.
“Affordable but not great”
Great location and a value price, but our room was quite dusty and not particularly comfortable (had a cinderblock, dorm-room feeling). Bedside lamp didn't work. Our room was off the open courtyard which I suppose would be nice on a lovely summer day, but not great on a cold, rainy day. It was adequate for our one-night stay, but we probably would have requested a room change if we were planning on a longer stay. The staff was helpful and friendly.
“just ok”
outdoor executive room had to walk up 3 flights outdoors to reach room. not a great room, bigger cheaply furnished in ok condition. Paid extra for executive room. Not worth the cost.
“Had expected more!”
Center city location in beautiful down town Gent. Parking near by; Reception desk not terribly helpful; Room spartan; Maximum 3 rating in my opinion. Down town Gent on the other hand has top rating!
“Avoid in summer, otherwise: great location and design, small rooms”
This is a "design" hotel with cool design in the lobby, and a minimalist vibe in the very small rooms which is partially cool but partially verges on the "cement". It was about 32F (90C) that day and there was no air conditioning in the room nor any fan available. Even with both french doors completely open, there was little air circulation. It was only possible to sleep a little in fits and starts due to the coffin-like air combined with the screams and shouts of the people on the street (it was a Saturday night so many people were out till 3 AM drinking and the windows give straight out onto the narrow street). The hotel management needs to give some thought to hot summer nights. Other than that, nice design (although very small rooms), exceptionally convenient location by the more upscale shops, good breakfast. When in Europe in Summer, make sure your hotel has airco. A lot of Europeans would say I sound like a spoiled American, but they need to realize the entire rest of the first world (Americas, Asia) has airco for temps of 90F. And these days, it gets hot in Summer in Europe quite a lot. K?
