Meetjesland, Belgium: Picturesque windmills, farms, and villages dot the landscape of Meetjesland, a historical region between Bruges and Ghent. Eeklo, the main town, has a number of notable buildings, including the 17th-century Town Hall. Bicyclists wend their way along the 40-km Leopold Canal, completed in the mid-1800s. A bridge over the canal was the site of a World War II battle and is today a national memorial.
